Set up Google Nest devices with the Home app
If your Google Nest device isn’t listed in this section, check devices that need the Nest app.

Set up Google Nest devices with Nest app
Important: Nest Protect only appears in the Nest app.
You need to set up some Google Nest devices with the Nest app before you can add them to the Google Home app. For instructions, select your product from the list:
- Nest Protect
- Nest cameras: Nest Cam IQ Indoor, Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, Nest Cam Indoor, Nest Cam Outdoor
- Nest Doorbell (wired)
- Nest × Yale Lock
- Nest Connect
- Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen or earlier) and Nest Thermostat E
Once you've set up these devices in the Nest app, they may link automatically in the Home app based on your settings.
To know if your devices linked automatically:
- Close both the Nest app and Google Home app.
- Open the Google Home app

- Check if the devices are listed under a room name or under "Local devices." If they aren't listed, you need to link them manually. Refer to the instructions in Connect third-party smart home devices in the Google Home app.
Set up third-party devices with the Home app
Many third-party devices, such as smart lights and appliances, can be set up and controlled with the Google Home app.
If your device is Matter-enabled, you can use the Google Home app for setup or connect it from a third-party manufacturer’s app. Refer to Set up, manage, and control Matter-enabled devices with Google Home.
