If you move into a home that has Nest Protect alarms already installed, they function as stand-alone smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. To maximize the benefits of an interconnected system, link each Nest Protect to your Wi-Fi network and the Nest app or Google Home app.
Tip: Each alarm sounds only in the affected room until your Nest Protects are interconnected. You won’t receive a Heads Up notification from Protects in other rooms, or receive alarm messages on your smartphone.
Why you should connect your Nest Protects to Wi-Fi
When Nest Protect is connected to Wi-Fi and added to the Nest app or Google Home app, you get access to all of the Nest Protect features which includes:
- Interconnected alarms
- Remote status monitoring from the Nest app or Home app
- Mobile notifications
- Advanced settings like Pathlight
