The Google Nest × Yale Lock’s keypad and white button inside your home light up to tell you what’s
happening and if anything needs your attention, like whether your lock is jammed, has been
tampered with, or has Privacy Mode turned on or off.

This article outlines what you can expect to see and hear when using your lock’s keypad or the white button inside your home.

What the lights and sounds mean

Your lock’s white button is found on the back of the
lock inside your home. It lights up to give you
information about its status and provides feedback
when you first set it up and add it to the Nest app.

After setup, the button lights up to let you know
whether your lock is jammed or if it has been
tampered with. When pressed, the white button also turns Privacy Mode on and off.

After adding your lock to the Nest app, the white button inside your home turns Privacy
Mode on or off and lets you check if it’s on or off. When you turn on Privacy Mode, it disables
the lock’s keypad so it can’t be unlocked using a passcode. See the article below for more

you information if something needs your attention.

What the sounds mean

Your lock plays different sounds when the keypad is touched to confirm responses, such as locking and unlocking, and turning Privacy Mode on and off.

Note: If you can’t hear a tone when you press the numbers on the lock’s keypad or hear a chime when the door locks and unlocks, check your volume settings. On the app home screen, tap Settings select your lock tap Volume select Low or High.

How can we improve it?

Light	What it means
	The lock is jammed or stuck. When you see the yellow exclamation mark, your lock's deadbolt is unable to retract (unlock) or extend (lock). Check the Nest app for more details. On the lock, you may hear: “Can’t unlock the door. The deadbolt is stuck,” or “Can’t lock the door. Make sure it is closed and the deadbolt is not blocked.”
	The lock has been tampered with. When you see the red exclamation mark and hear a siren noise on the lock, your lock has been tampered with. You may be notified by email and in the app. If this was triggered accidentally, turn off the siren by pulling out the batteries and reinstalling them. How to remove the lock’s batteries >
	The battery is low or very low. When you see the battery icon below the zero ‘0’ on the keypad, it means your battery is low. Depending on your lock’s battery level, you may hear: Low battery: “The battery is low. Replace the battery soon.” Very low battery: “The battery is very low. Sound	What it means
Key press tone Click to hear >	When you press the numbers on the keypad to enter your passcode, it will play a tone to confirm your entry.
Unlocked chime Click to hear >	When you unlock your door, it will chime to confirm that you have unlocked your door.
Locked chime Click to hear >	When you lock your door, it will chime to confirm that you have locked your door.
Error chime Click to hear >	When you enter an incorrect passcode, it will play an error chime and the keypad will light up in an alternating left and right pattern. If you enter the incorrect passcode five times, you’ll hear “That was too many tries. Please try again in one minute, or use your Nest app to unlock.”
Countdown chime Click to hear >	When you’re turning Privacy Mode on or off, a countdown chime will play when you press and hold the white button inside your home.
