If Google Nest Protect chirps or signals low batteries in the Nest app or Google Home app
after setup, the battery voltage might have temporarily dropped. It can happen if it takes a bit longer to connect your new Nest Protect to your Wi-Fi network and add it to your account. You can easily fix this with a couple of solutions depending on the notification you receive.
If you get a low-battery message in the app but Nest Protect doesn't chirp
If the battery is low, you’ll get a message in the Nest or Home app after you’ve added your Nest Protect to your account. If you don’t hear a chirp, proceed to mount it on your wall or ceiling. Wait a day or 2 and check if the issue resolves itself.

If this doesn’t work and you need to replace the batteries in your Nest Protect with new ones:
- Only use Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) lithium-ion batteries.
- Make sure you don't use alkaline batteries.
Note:
If you don’t get a blue light or welcome message when you remove the battery tab:
- Remove the batteries from your Protect.
- Check for pieces of the tab in the battery tray.
- Put the batteries back in. Make sure to push them all the way in.
