Control your Nest Protect with the Nest app and Google Home App

The Nest app and Google Home app lets you control and get information about your Google Nest Protect with a computer, phone or tablet that’s connected to the internet. Sign into your account in the app to check and manage all the Nest Protects in your home.

Adding a new Protect to the Nest app

During setup, you’ll add Protect to your account in the Nest app or Home app. Use the app on your phone or tablet for Protect setup.

Quick tips

Check the status of your Nest Protects

On the Nest app

To check the status of your Nest Protects, select the Protect icon on the Nest app home screen.

Tap on one of your Protects, and a pop-up displays the status of the following:

  • Carbon or smoke alarms
  • Battery and sensor
  • Date and time of the last test and internet connection

Swipe left or right to switch between each of your Protects.

On the Home app

To check the status of your Nest Protects, tap and hold the Smoke & CO tile on your Home app. Tap the tile of your Protect to check their status.

How to get to Nest Protect Settings

  1. On the app home screen, select Protect.
  2. Tap Settings Nest settings icon in the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Basic settings apply to all your Protects. Select a Protect to check and manage its individual settings.

Tip: After you make changes to your Protect settings, it can take up to 24 hours for your Nest Protect to update.
