During professional installation, the expert installer configured your thermostat to work with your heating and cooling system. To finish setup, you need to add it to your Google Home.

You must connect the thermostat to the Google Home app to use most of its features. Before you add it to the app, you’ll only be able to adjust the current setpoint and temperature mode on the thermostat.

Before you start

Add your thermostat to the Google Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
    • You may be prompted to create a new home if you don’t have one already.
  2. Tap Devices and then Add and then Google Nest or partner device Google Nest or partner device.
  3. Choose a home or create one.
    • A home is how devices are grouped in the Google Home app. You’ll be prompted to add your home address or zip code when you create a new home.
  4. The app searches for devices you can add. If it doesn't find your thermostat, select it from the list.
  5. To continue with a QR code, scan the code on the back of your thermostat display or on the face of the thermostat.
    • If the scan is unsuccessful, you can tap Continue without scanning. Select the thermostat you’re setting up and enter the code on the back of the thermostat display.
  6. When you reach the “Get started” screen, tap Already installed.
Important: This step ensures that you don’t overwrite any of the important equipment settings your installer already configured for you.
  7. Choose a Wi-Fi network to connect to.
  8. Tell the Google Home app where in the home the thermostat is located. This is used for device organization and voice commands.
  9. You’ll be prompted to set up a few key features. If you want, you can skip this step and configure them later.

For the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) only: You’ll be asked to configure the Nest Temperature Sensor included in the box, which can be done now or later. Learn how to set up the Nest Temperature Sensor.
