Move the devices closer to each other
Sometimes there’s too much wireless interference for Smoke and CO Alarms to connect to your Wi-Fi network or each other. Make sure that your Smoke and CO Alarms are near each other during the entire setup process. Ideally, they should be no more than a few feet apart.
Tip: If you have already installed a new Smoke Alarm on the ceiling or wall, remove it and place it within range of each other.
Uninstall your Nest Protect
If you’ve already mounted a new smoke and CO alarm on the ceiling or wall, remove it and place it next to a smoke alarm that has already been added to the Nest or Home app. To uninstall it:
Wired |
Battery powered |
|
|
After you uninstall your Protect, follow your smoke or CO alarm's manual to install it.
Move Smoke and CO Alarm closer to Wi-Fi router
Move your Smoke and CO Alarms closer to your Wi-Fi router to help ensure that they’re within range of each other. Common sources of interference are nearby Wi-Fi networks or other electronics that use 2.4GHz frequency like microwaves, Bluetooth devices, baby monitors and others.
Try to move your Smoke and CO Alarms closer to your Wi-Fi router. You can also turn off some of your electronics to reduce interference. Refer to Learn about wireless interference and how to troubleshoot it.Continue canceled Nest account migration
If you previously canceled the migration of your Nest account to a Google account, you may not be able to set up your account later. You should factory reset your Nest Protect and set it up again with a migrated or new Google account.
Factory reset your Nest Protect
Important: If you factory reset your Protect, its ability to detect smoke or carbon monoxide doesn’t change. The alarm should still sound if either is detected.
- Press and hold your Protect’s button. It’ll chime and glow blue. Continue holding the button down.
- Release the button when your Protect starts to say its version number.
- Your Protect starts a verbal countdown and tells you it’s erasing all your settings.
- To cancel the factory reset, press Protect’s button again during the countdown.
- After a few seconds your Protect will reset to its factory default settings. Then, you can go through setup with the app and add it to an account again.
