Video history is Nest's cloud-based video recording and storage service. Your Google Nest camera or doorbell automatically stores video securely to the cloud so that you can access it at any time. Use this article to learn how to access video history for your cameras in the Google Home app.
- Newer cameras and doorbells launched in 2021 or later have their video history timeline in the Home app.
- Older Nest cameras and doorbells launched prior to 2021 that have been migrated to the Home app also have their video history timeline in the Home app.
- For older Nest cameras and doorbells launched prior to 2021 that haven't been migrated to the Home app, find the video history timeline in the Nest app instead.

Find your camera’s video history
To access your camera's video history:
- Open the Home app
.
- Tap Favourites
or Devices
..
- Select your camera.

You can view video history under the camera’s live view, as either a timeline or list of events. To switch between views, tap Timeline
or Events list

Video-history controls
- Quick seek lets you navigate your camera history faster. You can navigate your video history playback forwards or backwards in 10-second increments.
- Double-tap on the right side of the video playback window to fast forward 10 seconds.
- Double-tap on the left side of the video playback window to rewind 10 seconds.
- Slide your finger up or down on the timeline or events list to scrub through your camera's video history.
- Tap an event to play the recorded video. To switch back to the live feed, tap Live
.
- To skip from one event to the previous or next one in the timeline view, tap Forward
or Reverse
.
- If you tap Reverse
while playing an event clip, it'll replay from the beginning.
- If you tap Reverse
- Tap Pause
.
- To switch between a full-screen or half-screen view of the feed, tap Expand
or Collapse
.
What your camera's timeline means
- Recorded events are marked as white on the timeline.
- For event video history, the time between recorded events when there's no activity appears as gaps in the timeline.
- For 24/7 video history, footage with no activity is marked as grey on the timeline. If there are gaps in the 24/7 video history, then the camera was either turned off or offline.
Get more information about recorded events
In the events list, you can find the following information for each event:
- Type of event
- Date and time
- Duration of event
To get more details about the recorded event, tap Info .
To download the event, tap Controls
Save clip.
How far back in time you're able to review recorded events depends on which Nest Aware subscription you have.
Disable video recording
- Open the Google Home app

- Select the camera.
- Go to Settings
.
- Select Video
Video history.
- Tap No video history.
