Create My Widget lets you customize your Googlebook Home screen with your favorite content by using AI. To create your own interactive widgets on your Googlebook Home screen, describe what you want in simple words or pick from ready-made templates to quickly find information and interact with it.
Access the Create My Widget feature
Create My Widget starts right from your Home screen.
Launch the Create My Widget studio- Right-click on any empty area of your Home screen.
- Select Browse widgets.
- Select Create to launch the Create My Widget studio.
Create a custom widget
When you open the widget creation tool, you can make your custom widget in two ways: by choosing from suggestions, or by typing what you want.
Create from a curated suggestionThese ready-made ideas give you quick ways to start creating your own custom widget.
- Open the Create My Widget studio.
- Scroll horizontally to browse the row of featured suggestions.
- Scroll down to explore categories such as:
- Sports & fitness
- Weather
- Important dates
- Finance
- World Clock
- Tools & Tips
- Daily habits
- Events & Travel
- Select a category of interest.
- Review the suggested prompt cards.
- Select Try it on the suggestion. The widget preview appears within seconds.
You can also create your widget by typing a prompt.
- Open the Create My Widget studio.
- Select Describe your widget at the bottom of the screen.
- Type your desired widget description into the text field. You can edit your widget later.
- Examples:
- "Show me the next soccer game."
- "Countdown to Tokyo vacation on November 12."
- "Show my upcoming flight status."
- Examples:
- Select Send to generate your widget.
Review & refine your widget
After the widget is made, a preview appears on the screen. You can select Add to put the widget on your Home screen, or Edit to continue editing.
Review visual styles and layouts- After generating your widget, move horizontally across the preview carousel to evaluate available styles.
- Confirm that the information is accurate, such as schedule dates or countdown numbers.
You can change the widget's colors, what's inside the widget, or what information the widget shows, by just typing what you want. You don't have to keep the widget exactly how it first appeared.
- Below the widget preview, select Edit.
- In the input bar labeled "Describe a change", specify your desired refinement.
- Example: "Make the background blue."
- Select Send.
- The studio makes the widget again based on what you asked for, keeping the main information the same. The preview immediately updates to display the refreshed theme.
You can give feedback right below the preview cards. This helps make widgets better for everyone.
- After generating or editing a widget, locate the feedback buttons below the widget preview card.
- Select Thumbs up
or Thumbs down
.
- If you select Thumbs up, you can choose quick attribute tags, such as "Useful," "Accurate," "Creative," "Readable," "Fun," or "Other," to further categorize your feedback.
Add your widget to the Home screen
When you're happy with how the widget looks, you can put it on your Googlebook Home screen.
Place the widget on your Home screenOnce you are satisfied with the widget preview, select Add.
This action places the widget directly onto your Home screen.
Edit an existing widget on your Home screen
You can modify existing widgets from your Home screen. You don't need to delete and make a new one when you want something different.

Modify widget content conversationally- On your Home screen, right-click on the widget you wish to modify.
- A contextual menu appears. Select Settings.
- In the "Edit your widget" overlay, enter your new instruction in the Describe a change text box.
- Example: If you have a sports match widget, you could type: "I want the next game on".
- Select Send.
- The system uses your request to update the widget. For example, a single-team card can restructure into a two-team dashboard with new schedule data.
- Select Add to finish updating your widget, or select Edit to continue editing.
- On your Home screen, right-click the widget until the resize bounding box and anchor handles appear.
- Drag any horizontal or vertical handle to make the widget bigger or smaller.
- Compact size: Shows only the next event.
- Expanded size: Shows more lists, timelines, and extra details.
- Select anywhere outside the bounding box to lock the dimensions.
Delete a widget
Removing a widget from your Googlebook Home screen is easy. It includes an undo option if you change your mind.
Remove your widget- Right-click the widget you wish to remove from your Home screen.
- From the context menu, select
Remove.
- Alternatively, you can drag the widget to the Recycle Bin or Trash.
- The widget disappears from the Home screen immediately.
- Immediately after widget removal, a message that says "Item removed" and an Undo button appear at the bottom of the screen.
- If you removed the widget by accident, select Undo within 5 seconds. This restores the widget and its configuration.
Create effective widgets
Here are some tips to help you use Create My Widget well:
- Be specific about details like location, teams, currencies, or timeframes (for example, "pollen count in my location", "Real Madrid fixtures").
- Use the in-preview Edit button to tweak colors and shapes before adding to the Home screen.
- Use conversational editing in Settings to add new criteria without starting over from scratch.
- Drag the widget's resize handles on the Home screen to let the AI layout adapt dynamically to different grid spans.
