Important: Look up uses AI to provide answers.
With Look up on your Googlebook, you can get relevant answers to your questions without leaving your active app or webpage.
Highlight text on your screen to quickly find definitions, translations, conversions, flight details, and landmark info, or to ask follow-up questions.
Important:
- To use this feature, you must be 18 years or older and signed in to your Google Account on your Googlebook.
- This feature is currently available in English only.
- This feature is available only in countries where the Google Play Store is supported.
Use Look up
- Select the word or words you want to look up.
- For example, if you’re shopping for a new refrigerator, you can select the name of the refrigerator you’re interested in to know more about its features, pricing history, and more.
- Right-click and select Look up.
- Review the results in the Look up panel.
- If Look up can’t provide an answer, “For this request, get help from Gemini” appears with a suggestion to use Gemini.
- To open Gemini, select Open Gemini app

- After you receive your initial answer, you can either:
- Ask a follow-up question:
- In the text box, enter another query.
- Alternatively, you can, below the previous result, select a suggestion.
- Explore suggestions: Select any suggested topic below the answer to learn more.
- Ask a follow-up question:
Tip: If you don’t have any more queries, you can close the Look up panel and continue with your original task. To close, you can either:
- At the top right, select Close
.
- Select any area outside of the panel.
Turn off Look up
Look up is turned on by default. If you want to turn it off:
- Open your Googlebook’s Settings app
.
- Select Apps
See all apps
Look up
.
- On the app detail page, select Additional settings in the app.
- Turn off Use Look up.
Get location suggestions
Look up can use your location to provide relevant answers, like information on nearby restaurants or local content in your area. To turn on this feature, allow the precise location permission in the Google app. Learn how to manage location permissions for apps.
