Important:
- Make sure you have set up and are signed into the Gemini app on your device.
- Make sure your device’s default assist app is the Google app

- This feature is available on Googlebook devices in countries where Gemini is available. Learn more about Gemini supported countries and territories.
- This feature is available in English, German, French, and French Canadian.
With Magic Pointer, you can point at and select objects on your screen to ask, compare, or create with Gemini.

Turn Magic Pointer on or off
From your status bar, you can turn on Magic Pointer or manage it in Settings:
- To turn it on from the status bar: In your status bar, select Magic Pointer

Use Magic Pointer
Start Magic Pointer
Once you turn on Magic Pointer, you can start it with one of these methods:
- From status bar: In your status bar, select Magic Pointer
.
- Wiggle your cursor: To turn this gesture on and adjust the cursor wiggle sensitivity:
- Open your Googlebook's Settings app
.
- Select System

- Select Preferences.
- Under "Preferences," turn on Wiggle your cursor to start Magic Pointer.
- Once turned on, you can move the slider to adjust the cursor wiggle sensitivity.
- Open your Googlebook's Settings app
- Use the keyboard shortcut: Select Action
+ g.
Tip: Some mice support Magic Pointer with a dedicated button. If supported, you can manually assign a button to open Magic Pointer with your mouse's companion app.
Select content & ask Gemini
After you turn on Magic Pointer, you can select the content you want to get insights or answers for.
To ask Gemini:
- Select the items.
- Enter a prompt in the text field.
- Or, select a suggested prompt.
Tip: If you select content but don’t send it to Gemini and then exit Magic Pointer, Magic Pointer saves your content as a draft. The next time you turn on Magic Pointer, your saved draft appears so you can pick up where you left off. To delete a draft, select Clear and exit .
- Hover over an item on your screen, like text, an image, or a file.
- Select the item.
- The selected item is highlighted or outlined.
- Hover over an item on your screen, like text, an image, or a file.
- Select the item.
- To select more items, next to the selected item's thumbnail, select Add content
.
- Or, you can:
- Select and hold Ctrl.
- Select the items you want.
- Or, you can:
Tip: With Magic Pointer, you can select up to 10 items at a time.
- Move your cursor over to and select the items you want.
- To make a custom selection on a specific area, drag a box on your screen.
- To select a text block, hover over the text until you find the text selection icon. Then, highlight the text.
Collapse or exit Magic Pointer
- To collapse: Select Collapse and save
.
- This hides Magic Pointer while you continue to work.
- Your selections remain saved until you open Magic Pointer again.
- To exit completely: You can:
- On your keyboard, select Esc.
- Select anywhere in the dimmed area of the screen.
- Simply repeat your launch method, like the keyboard shortcut or cursor wiggle.
