Understand Glowbar lights & settings on your Googlebook

The Glowbar on your Googlebook is the LED light strip on the lid of your device. The Glowbar provides quick visual feedback about your device's power, battery status, and other important system activities. It helps you understand what your Googlebook is doing at a glance, even when the screen is off.

Glowbar What it means

The Glowbar shows a solid white light replaced by colors, ending with white light.

Googlebook is turned on or woken up from sleep.

The Glowbar shows a four-color gradient (blue, green, yellow, red) that appears and then fades to dark.

Googlebook is turned off or put to sleep.

The Glowbar shows a bright, solid white light.

Googlebook is on and plugged in.

The Glowbar shows a dim, solid white light.

Googlebook is on and unplugged.

The Glowbar is unlit.

Googlebook is off, suspended, disabled, or has a low battery.

Understand battery status & charging lights
Glowbar What it means

The Glowbar shows a blinking red light: 1 second on, 1 second off, for 8 cycles (15 seconds), then stops.

Googlebook's battery is disconnected, broken, or there is a charging error.

The Glowbar temporarily fills with solid red, then fades and is replaced by a partially lit red light.

Googlebook battery is critically low. The device cannot power on with 0% battery when the power button is pressed.

Charge Googlebook for a few minutes and then press the power button again.

The Glowbar fills to become fully green.

Googlebook's battery is 95%+ and the device is off or asleep.

Understand Gemini activation lights
Glowbar What it means

The Glowbar shows a continuous blue and purple gradient.

A conversation with Gemini is in progress.

Turn Glowbar on or off

Important: When disabled:

  • This toggle prevents the always on Glowbar light and Gemini light.
  • This setting does not affect critical system Glowbar lights for power, charging, or sleep/resume status.

You can enable or disable Googlebook's Glowbar through your device settings.

  1. Open the Googlebook Settings app .
  2. Select Device & accessories and then Glowbar.
  3. Turn on or off Use Glowbar.

Turn Glowbar on or off when speaking with Gemini

Important: When disabled, the toggle only prevents the Glowbar’s Gemini light, and does not disable the ability to speak with Gemini.

  1. Open the Googlebook Settings app .
  2. Select Device & accessories and then Glowbar.
  3. Under “Manage Experiences,” turn on or off Speaking with Gemini.
