Use & manage web apps on your Googlebook

A web app is an app built for the web that you can access on any device. You can use web apps to have a website work as an app and access it on your Googlebook. Learn how to install or uninstall web apps.

Tip: Although web apps work offline, some may not work completely without an internet connection.

Learn about web apps

You can find web apps in your Googlebook's app launcher or in the Play Store. You can also install some websites as apps directly from Chrome browser.

Tip: Web apps come pre-installed on your device, you can download them from the Google Play Store, or you can install them from Chrome. You can identify a web app by looking for the website address, which will be visible for a short time when you open the app. When you select More More (Vertical) within the app, the message "Running in Chrome" will be visible.

Sign in & connect accounts

Your Google Account login works smoothly with Chrome and web apps. To stay logged in across both:

  • On your computer, open Chrome.
  • At the top right, select Profile and then Sign in to Chrome.
  • Enter your sign-in info.
  • Select Next.
  • Open a web app. If it uses your Google Account, it will automatically recognize your login.
  • If it needs its own login, sign in to that app. This will also log you into that service when you visit its website in Chrome browser.

Understand how your browser settings are shared with web apps

Web apps share certain settings with your browser.

For example:

  • App time limits: Parental controls for web apps on your Googlebook count toward time spent in your browser. Learn how to set up parental controls and set app limits on Googlebook.
  • Web apps use the same permissions as your browser, such as access to your camera, microphone, or location.
  • Any browser extensions you have installed will also work inside with web apps.
  • Web apps share the same cookies, site permissions, and browsing history as your browser.
    • Clearing cookies: If you clear your cookies in your browser, you'll be logged out of all connected web apps too.
    • App storage: You can manage the storage for web apps through your device's app settings.

Manage app settings, permissions & privacy with Chrome

If Chrome is your default browser, you can manage app settings, permissions, and privacy from the top bar of the installed web app itself.

  1. Open the web app.
  2. Select More More (Vertical) in the top bar.
  3. Select App info and then Permissions.
    • (Optional) Select Open in Chrome to open the app's content in a regular Chrome browser tab.
