Connect your Googlebook to a braille display

When you connect a refreshable braille display to your Googlebook through Bluetooth or USB, your device’s screen content shows on your display. To navigate your device, use the keys on your display. You can also input text with TalkBack braille keyboard.

Before you begin

You must turn on TalkBack to use a braille display. To turn on TalkBack:

  1. Open your Googlebook's Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility.
  3. Under “Screen reader,” select TalkBack.
  4. Turn on Use TalkBalk.

Pair your Googlebook with your braille display

  1. To open the TalkBack menu, in the Enhanced keymap, press TalkBack key + Ctrl + m.
  2. Select Braille display settings.
  3. Turn on Use Braille display.
  4. Select the name of your braille display and then Connect.

Fix issues with braille display

Find your braille display

  1. Make sure your braille display is on and ready to pair.
    • On some displays, you need to turn on Bluetooth and enter pairing mode or terminal mode.
  2. Check if your braille display has the maximum number of connected devices.
  3. Delete unnecessary devices.
    • This is necessary for braille displays that work with multiple Bluetooth connections.
  4. On your Googlebook, turn Use Braille display on or off or select Look for new device.

Connect to your braille display

If you can’t connect to your braille display:

  • Make sure your braille display is on or put it in pairing mode.
  • If your display only supports one connection, make sure your braille display isn’t connected to another device.

If the braille display still won’t connect:

  1. Open your Googlebook's Settings app .
  2. Select Connected devices and then the braille display you want to forget and then Forget.
  3. To reconnect, select System settings and then Accessibility and then TalkBack.
  4. Select Settings and then Braille display and then Look for new device.
  5. To complete the pairing process, follow the on-screen instructions.

Tips:

  • You may need to clear the saved device or reset the Bluetooth connections on your braille display.
  • If the connection still fails, check if your braille display supports connection on Googlebook or requires firmware updates.

Tip: To change the braille grade or language, on your Googlebook:

  1. Open the TalkBack Menu.
  2. Select TalkBack settings and then Braille display and then Preferred reading language or Preferred typing language.
