As you use your Googlebook, Magic Cue suggests info you can use or actions you can take when you use certain apps, chat, or search.
Important:
- This feature only works in the United Kingdom and in English. Googlebook devices outside of the United Kingdom can use Proactive Assistance. Learn more about Proactive Assistance.
- To access AI features, you must be at least 18 years old and be signed into a personal Google Account on your Googlebook.
Where to expect Magic Cue suggestions
With Magic Cue, you can find suggestions for:
- Chat apps, such as:
- Google Messages
- Select third-party messaging apps
- Other apps, such as Google Maps and Calendar
You can find these suggestions in places such as:
- Notifications
- When you right-click something
When to expect Magic Cue suggestions
You can use Magic Cue 24 hours after you first set it up on your device. As your device charges, Magic Cue processes new data. It may take time to start showing relevant suggestions to new info.
You’ll start finding Magic Cue suggestions in select scenarios depending on what info is available and useful for you at the moment.
Magic Cue will provide more info and action suggestions as you use your device over time.
Set up Magic Cue
Important:
- You can only set up one account with Magic Cue at a time. If you have multiple Google Accounts, Magic Cue uses the first Google Account you log into on your Googlebook device.
- You can only use Magic Cue on your personal Google Account on Googlebook.
- Before you can use Magic Cue, you may need to update some of your apps.
- Open your Googlebook’s Settings app
.
- Select Magic Cue.
- Turn Suggestion types and data sources on or off.
Control data sources Magic Cue uses
You can choose which data sources Magic Cue uses to provide suggestions.
- Open your Googlebook’s Settings app
.
- Select Magic Cue.
- Under “Data sources for suggesting info or actions,” you can choose which apps to use data from by selecting “Use data from specific apps.”
- To get relevant suggestions based on your recent on-screen activity, turn Use data from recent screen activity on or off.
- To let Magic Cue use certain data from your Google Account, like your email and phone number, turn Use data from your Google Account on or off.
To exclude a third-party app from Magic Cue:
- Open your Googlebook’s Settings app
.
- Select Magic Cue
Connected apps.
- Toggle off the app you want to exclude.
Tip: If you turn off Magic Cue for third-party apps, their info won’t show in Magic Cue suggestions.

Gemini can show suggestions through these Magic Cue features.
Get action suggestions in Google MessagesYou can get action suggestions in your Google Messages app through notifications.
When someone messages you a time and place to meet, you can receive a notification with an action suggestion. The notification can include a link to Google Maps for location or a link to Calendar to check your schedule or add a calendar invite.
You can get action suggestions when you select relevant text in apps like Gmail, Calendar, or Google Maps. For example, open a location in Maps if someone mentions it in an email text.
- Highlight the relevant text, like a date or an address.
- Right-click the highlighted text.
- Choose the suggested app from the menu. For example:
- To check your schedule: Select Calendar
to view your schedule for that date.
- To find a location: Select Maps
to open the address in Google Maps.
- To check your schedule: Select Calendar
Fix issues with Magic Cue
If you can’t find suggestions, your data may not be processed yet or Magic Cue may not have enough info to give suggestions. Charge your device and wait at least 24 hours. You receive more suggestions over time as you continue to use your Googlebook as normal.
Turn Magic Cue onCheck that Magic Cue is turned on for your device.
- Open your Googlebook’s Settings app

- Select Magic Cue in the left navigation panel.
- Check that Magic Cue is toggled on.
To make Magic Cue work, it needs to download models. It only supports model downloads over a Wi-Fi connection.
If your Googlebook isn’t connected to Wi-Fi, you can find a “Wi-Fi connection needed” message. To continue, connect to Wi-Fi.
Before you can use Magic Cue, you need to update some apps.
- On your Googlebook, open the Google Play Store app
.
- At the top right, select your avatar.
- Select Manage apps & device
Updates available.
- Update any pending apps.
Use Google Workspace data for suggestions

When you use Magic Cue, you agree to Google's Terms of Service, AI Prohibited Use Policy, and Privacy Policy.
Always review suggested actions before you proceed. This is especially important when recommendations involve:
- Updated contact info
- Changes to an invoice or payment reminders
- Calendar invitations
- Changes to existing appointments
- Any other sensitive info
If you find a suspicious recommendation, ignore or reject the action and manually review the suggested change before you apply it.
