Change text & display accessibility settings on your Googlebook

To improve readability and comfort, you can use accessibility settings to adjust text size, display size, colors, and motion.

Tip: You can set these settings from the start in the setup wizard.

Change display size & text

Important: The font size setting doesn't apply to some apps.

To make your font size smaller or larger:

  1. Open your Googlebook device’s Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility and then Display size & text.
  3. To change your preferred font size, move the slider left or right.

To make your display size smaller or larger:

  1. Open your Googlebook device’s Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility and then Display size & text.
  3. To change your preferred display size, move the slider left or right.

Tips:

  • You get a preview of font and display size after you set the slider to your preferred size.
  • If you don't like the result, to reset your settings, select Reset settings.
    • Your display size and text options return to the original device setting.
Adjust cursor size & color

To make it more noticeable, you can make the mouse pointer bigger.

  1. Open your Googlebook device’s Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility and then Cursor & touchpad accessibility.
  3. To change your preferred cursor size, move the slider left or right.
  4. To change cursor color, select Cursor color.
    • You can set cursor fill color and stroke color separately.
Dim your screen

To make it more comfortable to read, you can dim your screen beyond your device’s minimum brightness.

  1. Open your Googlebook device’s Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility.
  3. Turn on Extra dim.
Use Quick Settings to adjust font

Important:

  1. From the top right of the screen, select Quick Settings.
    • Alternatively, on your keyboard, press Action Google G icon + q.
  2. Select Wi-Fi and battery info and then Font Size Test.
  3. Choose your preferred font size.
    • To increase the font size: Select Increase Increase.
    • To decrease the font size: Select Decrease Decrease.
    • To adjust the font size: Drag the percentage slider left or right.

Tip: You can adjust the font size up to 200%.

Use bold fonts

Important: Not all apps support this setting.

To improve visibility, you can use bold font.

  1. Open your Googlebook device’s Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility and then Display size and text.
  3. Turn Bold text on or off.
Use outline text

To turn outline text on or off:

  1. Open your Googlebook device’s Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility and then Display size and text.
  3. Turn Outline text on or off.

Change display colors

Use color correction

Color correction and grayscale settings help your device compensate for color blindness.

  1. Open your Googlebook device’s Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility and then Color and motion and then Color correction.
  3. Turn on Use color correction.
  4. Choose a correction mode.
    • To control the intensity of the color correction, you can adjust the slider.

Use color inversion
Important: Color inversion reverses colors on the screen and applies to everything, including media.
  1. Open your Googlebook device’s Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility and then Color and motion and then Color inversion.
  3. Turn on Use color inversion.

Turn on dark theme
  1. Open your Googlebook device’s Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility and then Color and motion.
  3. Turn on Dark theme.
Turn on dark theme expanded option

Important:

  • When in use, some issues may occur. These include inverted images or unreadable text on images.
    • You can switch back to the “Standard” option under dark theme at any time.
  • If the expanded option is on but an app still appears light:
    • The app may not support the expanded option yet. It may be on a block list from your device manufacturer.
    • The app may not support the dark theme expanded option.
  1. Open your Googlebook device's Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility and then Color and motion.
  3. Select Dark theme and then Expanded.

Control motion

Remove animations

To help you focus, you can turn off animations. For an individual animation, select the animation to turn it off.

  • You can click, tap on your touchscreen, or navigate with your keyboard and press enter.

To turn off all animations on the device:

  1. Open your Googlebook device’s Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility and then Color and motion.
  3. Turn on Remove animations.
Tip: Some apps may not support removing animations.
Change text cursor blink rate setting

Important:

  • The text cursor blink rate setting controls the cursor in native Googlebook text fields, like search bars, notes, and password fields.
  • A modified blink rate might not be supported in some apps, games, or web browsers. This means the cursor may continue to blink at its default speed.
  1. Open your Googlebook device's Settings app .
  2. Select Accessibility and then Color & motion and then Text cursor blinking.
  3. To set the cursor blink speed, move the slider:
    • Default position: The cursor blinks at the standard rate, typically 500 milliseconds.
    • Slide left: The cursor blinks slower than the default speed. This lessens visual distraction while keeping the cursor active.
    • Slide right: The cursor blinks faster than the default speed. This helps you find your cursor easily and maintain focus.
    • Slide all the way to the left: The cursor stops blinking completely. You can use this to stop any visual distraction or triggers.

Tip: To return the original cursor blink rate, at the bottom of the slider control, select Reset.
