To make sure your device connects reliably and securely to Wi-Fi and mobile networks, you can manage your Googlebook's advanced network settings. You can change settings like automatic connections, metered access, proxy settings, and more.
Set up a proxy to connect devices
- Open your Googlebook’s Settings app

- Select Network & internet
Internet.
- Select a network.
- Select Edit
Advanced options.
- Under “Proxy,” select the Down arrow
.
- Select the configuration type.
- If needed, enter the proxy settings.
- Select Save.
When to use a proxy
You can use a proxy as a gate or tunnel between devices. For example, you might need to connect through a proxy when you connect to your work network from your home.
Control data use with metered Wi-Fi
- Connect your Googlebook to Wi-Fi.
- Open your Googlebook’s Settings app

- Select Network & internet
Internet.
- Select the Wi-Fi network you’re connected to.
- Select Network usage
Treat as metered.
When to use metered Wi-Fi
If your network has a data limit, you can set your Wi-Fi as metered. When your network is metered, you have more control over how much data your device uses through downloads and other apps.
Find your MAC address
- Open your Googlebook’s Settings app
.
- Select About device.
- Scroll down to “Device Wi-Fi MAC address.”
Your device also has another MAC address. To find it:
- Turn on Wi-Fi.
- Open your Googlebook’s Settings app
.
- Select Network & internet
Internet.
- Next to your network, select Settings
.
- Scroll down to “Randomized MAC address.”
Tip: If you set up parental controls for your network, include both MAC addresses.
Turn Private DNS on or off
Important: By default, your device uses Private DNS with all networks that can use Private DNS. We recommend keeping Private DNS turned on.
To turn Private DNS on or off, or change its settings:
- Open your Googlebook’s Settings app
.
- Select Network & internet
Private DNS.
- Pick your option:
- Off
- Automatic
- Private DNS provider hostname
- Select Save.
Tip: Private DNS helps secure only DNS questions and answers. It can't protect anything else.
Change more Wi-Fi settings- Open your Googlebook’s Settings app

- Select Network & internet

Network preferences.
- Select an option.
- Turn on Wi-Fi automatically: Have Wi-Fi automatically turn on near saved networks. Learn about saved networks.
- Notify for public networks: Notify when a high-quality public network is available.
- Allow WEP networks: Let your device connect to join WEP networks.
- Install certificates: Check what service rates Wi-Fi networks for your device. Learn about certificates.
- Wi-Fi Direct: Let your device connect without a network with other devices that can use Wi-Fi Direct.
