Use cross-device services on your Googlebook

Your Googlebook can work better together with your Android phone with cross-device services. For example, when cross-device services is turned on:

  • Apps can offer suggestions to continue activities and tasks you started on another device.
  • You can access your phone apps on your Googlebook.
  • You’ll get new cross-device features as soon as they’re released.

Before you begin

To use cross-device services, make sure you have the following:

  • A Googlebook that runs the latest Googlebook OS version.
  • An Android phone that runs Android 17 or higher.
  • Your Googlebook and Android phone have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on.
  • Both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network or personal hotspot.
  • Both devices are signed in to the same Google Account.
  • Open the Google Play Store and ensure all apps are updated on both devices. Learn more about how to update your apps.

Turn on cross-device services

Important: Cross-device services work across devices when they share at least one Google Account.

When cross-device services and Bluetooth are turned on:

  • Your other devices can find your device name and other device info.
  • Until you turn off cross-device services, your other devices in the same group can recognize your device.
  1. Open your Googlebook’s Settings app .
  2. Select Connected devices and then Connection preferences and then Cross-device services.
  3. Turn on Use cross-device services.

Tip: On each of your devices, make sure to repeat the steps above.

Make sure the features you want to use are on

On each of your devices, turn on what you’d like to share across your devices.

  • Continue activity: You can continue tasks you started on your Android phone on your Googlebook. Your Googlebook lets you access your phone’s apps, notifications, files, and media to help you pick up where you left off.
    • Notifications: Sync notifications across your devices.
    • Do Not Disturb sync: Sync Do Not Disturb across your devices.
    • Files & media: Access files from your phone on your Googlebook. (Phone only)
    • Tasks: Continue activity you started on your phone on your Googlebook. (Phone only)
    • Apps: Access the apps you started on your phone on your Googlebook. (Phone only)
  • Internet sharing: Share internet access between devices with the same Google Account. If you turn this off, your other devices can’t use your device for internet access. When you turn this on, your other devices can get internet access from the device you use.

To turn on the features you want to use:

  1. Open the Settings app .
    • On your Googlebook: Select Connected devices and then Connection preferences and then Cross-device services.
    • If you have a Pixel phone or tablet: Select Connected devices and then Connection preferences and then Cross-device services.
    • If you have an Android phone or tablet: Select Google and then All services and then Cross-device services.
      • Alternatively, on your Settings app, at the top, enter Cross-device services.
  2. Select Continue activity or Internet sharing.
  3. Turn on what you’d like to share across devices.

Manage your device groups

Important: By default, your current device is added to a device group when you complete set up for cross-device services.

Devices that are signed in to the same Google Account can share cross-device services with each other.

  1. Open your Googlebook’s Settings app .
  2. Select Connected devices and then Connection preferences and then Cross-device services.
  3. Under “Device groups,” select your Google Account.
    • You can find a list of other devices that use the same Google Account added to the device group.
Remove your Googlebook from a group
  1. Open your Googlebook’s Settings app .
  2. Select Connected devices and then Connection preferences and then Cross-device services.
  3. Under “Device groups,” select your Google Account.
  4. To remove your Googlebook from the group, turn it off.
    • This turns off cross-device services on your Googlebook.

Fix connection issues

If your phone apps don’t appear on your Googlebook or your phone is not syncing to your Googlebook, there may be a connection issue. Try these steps:

  1. Restart cross-device services: Turn off cross-device services on both your Googlebook and Android phone. Wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on.
  2. Restart your devices: Restart your Googlebook, your Android phone, or both to refresh the system connection.
  3. Verify Play Store updates: Check the Google Play Store again to ensure all system apps are fully updated.
  4. Check your network: Double-check that both devices are on the exact same Wi-Fi network and that Bluetooth is active.
    • Wi-Fi networks must support Multicast DNS for the features to work.
    • Features might not work on public or corporate Wi-Fi networks. Check that you are connected to a personal Wi-Fi network or personal hotspot.
  5. Check for software updates: Ensure your devices are updated to the latest version of Android 17+.
