Getting your refund

After you cancel your Google Ads account, any remaining funds will be refunded to you through your original payment method. Note that promotional credits are not eligible for refund.

  • For payments originally made using credit card or direct debit: Google typically processes these refunds within 2 weeks, but it may take an additional 10 working days for your bank or credit card company to credit the funds to your account.
  • For payments originally made through a bank transfer: It may take longer to process these refunds. You may need to provide your bank account details in the 'Billing settings' page. Review and follow any instructions in your Google Ads account to ensure that you’ve submitted all required information for your bank transfer refund.

You can check the status of your refund on your 'Billing summary' page in Google Ads.

If 4 weeks have passed since your initial refund request, reach out to Google Support.

Check and pay your account balance after cancellation

After you've cancelled your account, you can sign in to Google Ads and check whether you have unpaid advertising costs. However, you may not be able to access your cancelled account after an extended period.

  1. Go to Summary within the Billing menu Billing icon.
  2. You’ll find one of the following:
    • For automatic payment accounts: Your unpaid advertising costs will be the amount shown under 'Current balance'.
    • For manual payment accounts: You won’t have unpaid balances. Prepaid funds remaining in your account will be refunded to the original credit card or bank account. For money transfer payments, you'll need to provide your bank details to process the refund.
    • For monthly invoicing accounts: Your unpaid advertising costs will be the amount shown under 'Amount due'. To verify that you didn't accrue any additional charges on your account after your ads stopped running, select Transactions from the menu on the left and search for 'Campaign activity' line items after the date that your ads stopped running.

Keep in mind that if you have an account balance, we'll automatically charge your primary payment method within the next 31 days. Your final automatic charge will include any costs that your ads accrued before your cancellation and for which you haven't yet been billed. If you have an expired credit card on file, make sure that you update it with a valid payment method to avoid any delays in processing the final charge.
