About reporting in AI Max for Shopping campaigns

AI Max for Shopping campaigns is a beta suite of features that uses Google AI to optimise your Shopping campaigns and to connect your ads with potential customers who are making complex, conversational searches. You can use AI Max for Shopping to help bridge the gap between static ad formats and how customers search today.

You can use performance reporting metrics in Google Ads to understand your AI Max performance. These metrics, including the product titles report, the asset report, the landing pages report and the search terms report can help you reimagine your campaigns and reach the target audience that's best for you.

This article explains the reporting options for AI Max for Shopping campaigns, and the best practices for reporting and optimisation.

Before you begin

To get the most out of your reporting metrics, you should wait at least 2 weeks after enabling AI Max for Shopping campaigns for a new or existing Shopping campaign before making changes, like adding text guidelines. This ramp-up period allows Google Ads to learn and optimise.

After your campaign has started to optimise, you can view available reports from the Campaigns Campaigns icon menu in Google Ads.

Understand your performance report

To enhance your Shopping campaign with AI Max enabled, you can view the following reports from your Google Ads account.

Asset report: Expanded final URL assets tab

In the asset report, the 'Expanded final URL assets' tab shows asset and URL combinations. You can use this report to:

  • View assets, both advertiser-uploaded and those created by text customisation, that served with expanded final URLs due to the final URL expansion feature.
  • Remove unfavourable assets.
  • Remove assets that don’t align with your business or are non-compliant with asset requirements.

To view the 'Expanded final URL' report, go to Assets within the Campaigns menu Campaigns icon.

Landing page report

The landing pages report shows aggregated statistics at the landing-page level. This includes advertiser-provided URLs and final URL expansion URLs. You can use this report to:

  • Ensure URLs selected by Google meet your needs.
  • Optimise your website.
  • Set URL exclusions.

For landing pages selected by Google AI as part of final URL expansion, the 'Selected by' column will have the value 'Automatically selected'.

To view the 'Landing page' report, go to Landing pages within the Campaigns menu Campaigns icon.

Search terms report

The search terms report shows you how your ads performed when triggered by actual searches within the Search Network. You can use this report to understand the additional reach to new queries unlocked by this feature.

The 'Match type' column in your search terms report tells you how closely the search terms that triggered your ads on Google are related to the actual keywords in your account.

To view the search terms report, go to Search terms within the Campaigns menu Campaigns icon.

Best practices

To make the most out of your reporting metrics, consider the following:

  • Turn on both final URL expansion and text customisation for maximum performance.
  • Focus on consumer search behaviour. Remember that searches can be varied and high volume. Because AI Max for Shopping is designed to capture incremental mid-funnel queries that traditional Shopping campaigns might miss, focus on account-level performance, conversion value and conversion goals instead of trying to make every match relevant.
  • Monitor overlap, but don’t over optimise. You generally don’t need to add negative keywords to the Shopping campaign for terms that you're already targeting in Search, since exact match keywords in Search campaigns will take priority. Performance Max generally prioritises highest-value users, while AI Max for Shopping captures incremental mid-funnel demand to bridge the gap.
