About text disclaimers for Search ads

Text disclaimers allow you to display the required terms, conditions, and disclosures related to your business in your existing desktop and mobile text ads. Text disclaimers are guaranteed to appear in the description line section in your responsive search ads (RSA). If your business must ensure specific text, terms, or disclosures appear in your ad for regulatory compliance, this feature guarantees that content will display.

Note: In rare edge cases, disclaimer assets may be truncated when displayed to users, particularly with increased font sizes (for accessibility), and in some languages due to the character limits. If a disclaimer asset is disapproved, it doesn't serve, but the ad may still serve without it.

In this article, you’ll learn about the benefits of this asset type, when to use it, eligibility, and key considerations.

Benefits

  • When you add a text disclaimer to your campaign, and it’s approved, it is guaranteed to show in all of the Search ads in your campaign. Keep in mind that in rare edge cases, disclaimer assets may be truncated when displayed to users, particularly with increased font sizes (for accessibility) and in some languages due to the character limits.
  • Text disclaimers are fully compatible with AI Max features, including the Final URL Expansion setting.

When to use

Use text disclaimers to disclose required information about your product or service directly in your Search ads. Text disclaimers will not affect your Ad Strength score.

Eligibility

Text disclaimers will be available to all advertisers globally.

Create text disclaimers

You can add text disclaimers only after you’ve created a campaign. You won’t be able to implement these assets during the campaign creation workflow.

How to add a text disclaimer to an existing campaign

  1. Go to Assets within the Campaigns menu Campaigns Icon.
  2. Select the plus button , then select Text Disclaimer.
  3. Next, select the campaigns that you want to use with the disclaimer asset.
  4. Enter the text you want to use as a disclaimer under the “Disclaimer” header.
    1. Note: The character limit for a disclaimer asset is limited to 90.
  5. Select Save.
Note: Disclaimer assets can only be created after your Responsive Search Ad has been created.

How to pause or remove a disclaimer asset

  1. Go to Assets within the Campaigns menu Campaigns Icon.
  2. Select the checkboxes next to all assets you want to modify.
  3. Click Pause or Remove on the blue bar at the top.
Note: If the disclaimer asset is removed or disapproved, then the pinned description line 1 will serve. If there was no pinned description line in this instance, then a standard description line option from the RSA will serve.

Reporting

Performance metrics for your disclaimer asset, such as how many impressions it has received, can be found in the assets report.

  1. Go to Assets within the Campaigns menu Campaigns Icon.
  2. You’ll be directed to the "Associations" tab, where you’ll find a table with all of your assets.
  3. Select the Disclaimer summary card header for the type of asset.

Considerations

  • Disclaimer assets will appear in the first eligible description space in your responsive search ad. They will always override any existing pinned description line 1 assets in the campaign. If you have an approved disclaimer asset in your campaign and assets pinned to the description line 1 position, assets in the description line 1 position will not serve.
  • If a responsive search ad headline is moved to the start of the description field, the disclaimer asset will follow immediately after it. Learn more about enhanced flexibility in responsive search ads.
  • If a disclaimer asset is disapproved during policy reviews, your responsive search ad will continue to serve. Other description lines or a description line pinned to position 1 will serve instead.
  • Disclaimer assets can only be created after your responsive search ad has been created.
  • Disclaimer assets have the same 90 character limit as description lines.
  • Disclaimer assets are compatible with all AI Max features, including Final URL Expansion (FUE) and text customization (TC).
  • Disclaimer assets may, on rare occasions, be truncated when shown to users, especially in certain languages, or when larger font sizes are used for accessibility.
