Google tag gateway for advertisers allows you to deploy a Google tag or GTM container using your own domain, enhancing data privacy and improving signal measurement recovery. Unlike standard setups where tags are requested from a Google domain, Google tag gateway for advertisers loads the tag from your domain and sends measurement events to your domain, where they are forwarded to Google.

Before you begin
To successfully set up Google tag gateway for advertisers, ensure you have:
- Access to your Google tag settings through Google Tag Manager, Google Ads, Google Analytics, or Campaign Manager 360.
- A Google Cloud project where you wish to run the Google tag gateway for advertisers.
- The necessary Google Cloud permissions to configure and manage resources. This is typically a Google Cloud administrator role.
- Consider if your website already uses Google Cloud external Application Load Balancer. This will be checked during setup.
Collaborate with your Google Cloud administrator
If you do not have access to your company's Google Cloud configuration, working with a counterpart that has this access is needed to enable Google tag gateway for advertisers.
Set up your Google tag gateway
Access your Google tag settings
Before you set up the Google tag gateway for advertisers, access your Google tag settings. You will do this within one of the following platforms:
From Google Ads
- In your Google Ads account, click the Tools icon.
- Click Data manager.
- Under "Google tag", click Manage. Then go to Admin.
From Google Analytics
- In your Google Analytics account, go to the Admin screen.
- In Data streams, click a stream to get details.
- Click Configure tag settings. Then go to Admin.
From Campaign Manager 360
- Open your Campaign Manager 360 advertiser.
- Under "Floodlight", click Google Tag.
- In the Google tag settings, go to Admin.
From Google Tag Manager
- In your Google Tag Manager account, click the Google tags tab. This shows Google tags you have previously set up.
- Note: To get Google tag IDs in Google Tag Manager, you need to manage a Google Ads, Analytics, or Google tag in a container.
- Click the tag name to edit the Google tag settings.
Start your Google tag gateway for advertisers setup
Once you have accessed your Google tag settings in the Admin section:
- In Admin, click Google tag gateway for advertisers.
- In the "Google tag gateway for advertisers" screen, click Continue.
- To check if your site already runs Google Cloud external application Load Balancer, do either of the following:
- Enter a valid website URL and click Scan.
- Choose Google Cloud Load Balancer from the list.
- In the "Check compatibility" screen, click Continue.
Finalize your gateway configuration
- Choose the Google Cloud project. The Google Cloud project should contain the domains you wish to run in Google tag gateway for advertisers.
- Note: If you need to customize your measurement path, choose a path not already in use on your website. Use the "edit icon" to override the pre-selections.
- Optional: Customize the domains preselected for your project.
- Click Complete setup.
Edit or deactivate Google tag gateway for advertisers
- From the "Google tag gateway for advertisers" screen, click Configure.
- Note: You can review your current setup and make changes. Use the "edit icon" to override active domains or other settings.
- To detach Google Cloud Load Balancer from your Google tag and remove the configuration, click Delete.
