How to fix: Matching error

Update your store address and store name to match with an existing Google business profile

This article explains how to fix the "matching error" that might happen with your store listings. The matching error is typically caused by an incorrect store address or name. To fix this, you must ensure that your store information is accurate and matches your Google Business Profile.

This article offers steps to fix the matching error by updating the affected stores and re-uploading a corrected data file on your store data source page.

Why this issue is happening

The matching error can occur for two primary reasons: It happens when Google’s geocoding service is unable to process your store's name and/or address, or when the matching service encounters an error and fails to return a result. In either case, our system may not correctly identify or match your store's name or address.

How to fix your issue

To resolve this issue, you need to ensure that your store name and store address are well-formed, correct, and accurately match an existing Google Business Listing. Providing precise and consistent information including all recommended attributes (for example, phone_number and website_url) helps both our geocoding and matching services identify your store correctly.

Follow these steps to update the affected stores, then re-upload a corrected data file on your store data source page:

Fix multiple stores at once

  1. Go to Data sources in your Merchant Center Settings.
  2. Select the Point of sale sources tab.
  3. Select your store data source.
  4. Select the download icon pic of download icon at top of tableto download a list (.csv) of all affected stores.
  5. Cross-reference the downloaded list with your uploaded store data. Update the store name, store address, phone number and website URL for each affected store in your data source to align with a valid, well-formed name, address, phone number and website URL of an existing Google Business Listing, ensuring consistency for geocoding and store matching.
  6. Reupload your corrected store data to the Merchant Center using an upload method of your preference.

Next steps

After making the requested changes, check that you’ve fixed the issue by making sure the issue is no longer listed under the “What needs attention” column of “Your POS store file” table of your store data source page.

Keep in mind: It may take 24-72 hours for your change to be reflected on the product’s “Needs attention” page, to resolve a “Missing valid store code” error for example.
