About creative image enhancements

Image enhancements use Google AI to intelligently create additional versions of your images, for example by adding text-overlays, adjusting aspect ratios, and animating images. This helps your ads to perform better and more effectively.

This article explains the various creative image enhancement features that are available for you to use in your campaigns, how they work, and the benefits of using them.

How image enhancements work

Prerequisites

Your assets must meet the following requirements for the image enhancements feature to work properly:

  • High-quality and sharp image assets with no exposure or cropping issues
  • Minimum of one headline
Note: Your images won’t always be enhanced, and new assets will only show on this ad group's selected channels. Make sure that your assets align with the editorial advertising policies.

Adaptive layouts

This image enhancement feature uses Google AI to add text overlay to images to help increase performance in your brand’s style.

Note: Your images won’t always be enhanced. Make sure that your assets align with the editorial advertising policies and meet the image enhancements prerequisites.

Animated images

This image enhancement feature uses Google AI to animate your images in your brand’s style in order to share more information and engage more audiences .

How to turn on or off image enhancements

Image enhancements are applicable to both Demand Gen and App campaigns. They’re turned on by default but you can turn them off anytime. To turn them on or off, follow these steps:

Turn on or off image enhancements in Demand Gen campaigns

  1. Go to Campaigns within the Campaigns menu.
  2. If you’re creating a new Demand Gen campaign, follow the steps on how to Create a Demand Gen campaign.
  3. If you have an existing Demand Gen campaign, click the gear icon Google Ads | gear [Icon] next to the campaign name.
  4. Under an ad group, click the 3-dot icon , then select Create new ad.
  5. On the ad builder page, select Single image ad under the “Choose which type of ad to create” card.
  6. You’ll find the “Asset optimization” section at the bottom of the “Media” card.
  7. The “Adaptive layouts” checkbox is checked by default.
    • Note: You may uncheck to opt out.
  8. Click Go to review and review the campaign details.
  9. If you are satisfied with the campaign settings, select Publish campaign.
Note: Image enhancements are enabled by default for any new Demand Gen campaigns. For App campaigns, image enhancements are automatically enabled when the system detects a performance opportunity.
