Controlling automatically created assets in Performance Max campaigns

Turn on automatically created assets in Performance Max

You can turn automatically created assets on or off from your Google Ads account. Follow the steps below to update your Performance Max campaign settings.

1. Go to Campaigns within the Campaigns menu .
2. Find the row with the Performance Max campaign you'd like to edit, then click the gear icon to open "Settings".
3. Click Automatically created assets and then, click Text to expand the sections.
4. Check or uncheck the boxes for Generation and Final URL.
5. Click Save.
   • Note: You can’t select Final URL without selecting Text assets.

Remove automatically created assets

You can view and remove automatically created assets from your Performance Max campaign by following the steps below.

View automatically created assets in an Asset Group

1. Go to Campaigns within the Campaigns menu .
2. On the “Campaigns” page, select the Performance Max campaign that you’d like to view.
3. You will then be redirected to the overview page of the Performance Max campaign. On the left panel under "Campaigns", click Asset groups.
4. On the asset group card you’d like to view the asset report of, click View details.
5. You will be presented with all the assets currently serving in your Asset group.

Remove automatically created assets in a Performance Max Asset Group

Just like other assets, you can remove automatically created assets. Follow the instructions above to get to the asset page. You can view automatically created assets under the “Source” column labeled as “Automatically Created”. To remove any assets, follow the steps below:

1. Click the dropdown arrow next to the status icon.
2. A drop down menu appears, select “Remove”.
3. You'll be asked to acknowledge that the asset will be permanently removed.
4. Click Confirm.

Note: When an automatically created asset is removed, it is permanently removed.

Disable automatically created assets in an Asset Group

Follow these steps to opt-out of automatically created assets:

1. Go to Campaigns within the Campaigns menu .
2. Click the Settings tab on top, then select the campaigns that you want to edit.
3. Click Edit, then select Change automatically created assets settings and turn it Off.
