Video Enhancements | Google Ads Help

For subtitles in your language, turn on YouTube captions. Select the settings icon Image of YouTube settings icon at the bottom of the video player, then select 'Subtitles/CC' and choose your language.


Video enhancements allow you to have additional and enhanced versions of your videos. They aim to improve campaign performance, for example by creating a vertical video from your horizontal video to better fit on vertical screens or creating shorter versions of your videos. This article explains the benefits of video enhancements and how you can use them to help you achieve your goals.

Get versions of your videos in different orientations

Get videos in different orientations from your original videos to better fit the screen on which they appear. Google AI intelligently flips or extends your video in new aspect ratios while preserving the video’s original content. Additional versions of your video run automatically if they pass a quality review.

Get shorter, more engaging versions of your original video

Get shorter versions of your video ads without editing them yourself. Google AI intelligently selects key moments in your video and creates shorter versions while keeping your original video’s message and appearance. Additional versions of your video run automatically if they pass a quality review.

How it works

Video enhancements use smart automation features to enhance your video in different ways. Video enhancements are applicable to both Video and Demand Gen campaigns. They’re turned on by default but you can turn them off at any time. To turn them on or off, follow these steps:

Demand Gen campaigns

  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Campaigns icon Campaigns icon.
  2. Click the Campaigns drop-down in the section menu.
  3. Click Campaigns.
  4. Hover over an existing Demand Gen campaign and click the gear icon Tools and setting menu icon [Gear] next to its campaign name.
  5. Select an ad under an ad group.
  6. On the ad builder page, select Video ad under the 'Choose which type of ad to create' card.
  7. You’ll find the 'Video enhancements' section at the bottom of the 'Media' card.
  8. The options 'Get vertical and square versions of your videos' and 'Get shorter versions of your videos' are selected by default.
    • Note: You may unselect to opt out.
  9. Click Go to review and review the campaign details.
  10. If you’re satisfied with the campaign settings, click Publish campaign.

Video campaigns

New video campaigns

  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Campaigns icon Campaigns icon.
  2. Click the Campaigns drop-down in the section menu.
  3. Click Campaigns.
  4. Click the plus button and then select New campaign.
  5. Select Sales as your campaign objective.
  6. Select Video as your campaign type.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. In 'Campaign settings', click the Additional settings drop-down menu.
  9. Click the Video enhancements drop-down menu.
  10. The 'Allow Google to create additional videos' option is selected by default. You may unselect to opt out.
  11. Click Create campaign.

Existing video campaigns

  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Campaigns icon Campaigns icon.
  2. Click the Campaigns drop-down in the section menu.
  3. Click Campaigns.
  4. Click Settings next to 'Drafts'.
  5. Find and select your video conversions campaign.
  6. Under 'Settings', click the Additional settings drop-down menu.
  7. Click the Video enhancements drop-down menu.
  8. The 'Allow Google to create additional videos' option is selected by default. You may unselect to opt out.
  9. Click Save.
