To start receiving marketing and performance emails, advertisers based in certain countries are legally required to confirm their email address when they opt in to marketing and performance emails.

Where is double opt-in required?
Double opt-in is legally required in the following countries: Austria, Germany, Greece, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Norway. If your billing address is located in one of these countries, you’ll need to confirm your email address to subscribe to marketing emails.
Existing Google Ads users
If you have an existing account in one of the countries listed above, you’ll automatically be opted out of receiving marketing emails and will need to confirm your address again. You’ll receive an email asking you to confirm your email address and preferences to receive marketing emails, and after you confirm you’ll be opted back in.
Note: If you don’t respond to the confirmation email, you’ll no longer receive marketing emails.
After you confirm via the confirmation email, you can also update your preferences by visiting the 'Notifications' tab on the Preferences page.
New Google Ads users
If you’re new to Google Ads, you can opt in to marketing emails during the signup process. When you confirm your business information, select Yes, send me performance tips, promotional offers, surveys and invitations to try new features, then select Submit. After you confirm via the confirmation email, you can also update your preferences by visiting the 'Notifications' tab on the Preferences page.
Google Ads manager accounts
If you’re using a Google Ads manager account, you can select which sub-manager accounts or client accounts you’d like to receive marketing emails using the following steps:
- Go to Notifications within the Admin menu

- In the 'Notifications' tab, select Full hierarchy.
- For the account that you’d like to receive marketing emails, in the tabs for 'Customised help and performance suggestions' and 'Newsletter', select Yes.
- To select multiple accounts that you’d like to receive marketing emails, select those accounts and select Edit, then select Yes next to the tabs for 'Customised help and performance suggestions' and 'Newsletter'.
- The email addresses for these accounts will be able to confirm these preferences when they receive the confirmation email.
