Anticipate consumer needs with demand forecasts on the Insights page

October 7, 2021

Consumer demand is changing rapidly, especially as we approach the holiday season. In fact, we’ve already seen a 100% rise in search queries for Christmas pajamas month over month1. To help you keep up with these changes in demand, we built the Insights page to give you trends that are tailored to your business. However, we heard your feedback that insights should also be forward looking. That’s why we’re rolling out demand forecasts on the Insights page.

Using machine learning, historical search data and statistical models, demand forecasts (beta) can help you predict emerging search trends relevant to your business over the next 3 to 6 months. You’ll see the trend line for each demand forecast, so you can understand when a trend is predicted to begin, peak and end. For example, let’s say you’re an electronics retailer preparing for the holiday season. With demand forecasts, you'll be able to see that the predicted holiday demand for "ebook reader accessories" and "camera accessories" actually starts as early as late September, peaks in December, and drops off in January.

Example demand forecast showing "eBook Reader & Accessories predicted to start trending the week of September 16th. Predicted search interest (US) +132%. Camera Accessories predicted to start trending the week of September 20th. Predicted search interest (US) +120%"

You can also dive into each demand forecast to understand the specific searches that are on the rise. For example, an electronics retailer may see a trend for “speaker systems” with growing searches for ”bluetooth speaker systems.” With this data, you can uncover new opportunities for your business and better prepare your marketing, inventory, merchandising and more. In addition, we’ll provide you with recommendations to help you make the most of predicted demand.
