How to fix ad disapproval: Unverified phone number

When your call-only ads, call assets, message assets, and location assets are disapproved under the Unverified phone number policy, it means your phone number hasn’t been verified by Google.

You can verify your phone number in 2 ways:

  1. Display the number on your site If you choose to verify your phone number by displaying the number on your business’ site or social media page , the phone number and your ad must meet the following requirements:
  • The phone number must be present on your business’ website or social media page featured in your ad. If the phone number appears in ads for different websites or social media pages, then that phone number must appear on at least one page for each of those websites or social media pages.
  • Your phone number will be easier to detect and verify if it’s featured on a landing page that’s visited frequently.
  • The number must appear in text. It will not meet the policy if it appears as an image. To increase the chances of our crawler detecting your phone number, ensure the number is in E.164 format in your website’s source code (E.164 format example: [+] [country code] [phone number including area code]).
    • Note: If you use a dynamic number insertion script to change the phone number on your website based on traffic source, use the domain ownership verification methods detailed below.
  • The verification URL must have the same domain as your ad's display URL.
  1. Verify domain ownership If you choose to verify your phone number by proving ownership of your ad's display URL domain, there are 2 ways you can do this:

Troubleshooting steps

  1. Check your ad to make sure you entered your phone number correctly. If your phone number isn't correct, edit your ad and enter the correct phone number.
  2. Verify your phone number using one of the methods described above.
  3. Submit your ads or assets for review based on the following:
    • If you're using call-only ads, select all ads disapproved for "Unverified phone number". Select Edit, then Appeal policy decision to submit them for review.
    • If you’re using call assets or message assets, you’ll need to create new assets or edit your existing assets, then Click Save to submit your assets for review.
    • If you're using a location asset, the associated phone number must follow the verification requirements mentioned above. There are 2 ways to edit your asset based on the address you want to use:
      • Business Profile address: If the disapproved location is an address from Business Profile, you'll need to sign in to your Business Profile account and update your location information there, which will automatically transfer over to Google Ads. Learn how to edit a Business Profile listing.
      • Manually entered address: If you have manually entered the address, hover over that address and click on the pencil icon to edit your location information. Review the company name and ensure you're not using a prohibited trademark.

After you edit and save your ad or asset, it will be sent for review. If the review determines that you've removed the non-compliant content from your ad and landing page, your ad can be approved to start running.
