Create and use an avatar in Gemini Apps

You can record your face and voice to create your avatar to use in Gemini Apps. Once you’ve created your avatar you can use it when you create videos with Gemini Omni and streamline your content creation process.

What you need

To create an avatar, you must:

Be 18 or over
Be signed in with a personal Google Account with an Google AI plan. Learn how to upgrade.

Important:

Avatars are currently not available in the EEA, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom.
Avatars are currently only supported in English.

Create your avatar

On your computer, go to gemini.google.com
In the text box at the bottom, click Add Files More uploads Avatar
With your phone or tablet, scan the QR code.
Follow the onscreen instructions on your phone or tablet to record your face and voice.
- You’ll need to allow access to your camera and microphone
Return to your computer to finish the process.
Click Use Avatar.

Tip: To try the process again you can click Retake.

Tips to record your face and voice

To make sure your recording is accepted, follow these tips:

Phone position: Hold your phone at eye level.
Lighting: Use lighting that is not too dim or too bright.
Visibility: Ensure your eyes, nose, and mouth are visible. Glasses are fine to keep on, but no sunglasses, masks, or hats.
Audio environment: Choose a quiet area to record your voice. There should be no other voices in the background.
Background: Check that there are no people or images of faces in your background.
Account owner: The account owner must complete this process. Do not allow minors to record themselves.

Use your avatar in Gemini Apps

Go to gemini.google.com
In the text box at the bottom, click Add files .
Click Avatar .
- Your avatar will show in your prompt as @[your Google username].
Enter your prompt.

Click Submit .

Tip: You can also type “@” and then select your Google username from the menu to create a prompt with your avatar.

Examples

"Create a video of @[your Google username] singing with an orchestra."
"Write a story where @[your Google username] is the main character, facing a dragon."

Tip: To create a video with your personal avatar, you must have a Google AI plan. Learn how to upgrade.

Find and manage your avatar

Find your avatar

On your phone or tablet, open the Gemini app .
On the bottom left, click Settings .
In the menu, click Personal avatar .

Tip: At any time you can select “Retake” to submit a new recording of your face and voice.

Delete your avatar

Go to gemini.google.com
On the bottom left, click Settings .
In the menu, click Personal avatar .
On the top right, click Delete .
- This will take you to the Selfie video page of your Google Account
- To preview your avatar, click Preview image.
Under the selfie and voice recording you’d like to delete, click Delete .
Follow the on-screen prompts.

When you delete your recordings:

You will not be able to create new AI-generated content with that avatar. To create new content, you will need to go back to the app or service you want to use, and create a new avatar by re-recording your selfie and voice.
Your recorded selfie and voice data for that avatar will be removed from Google's systems.
Videos or content you already made and published with that avatar are not deleted.
