You can collaborate with Gemini in Canvas to create or or edit a doc, app, or code. You can also turn your creation into an Audio Overview, quiz, and more.
Important: To use this feature, you must be signed in to Gemini Apps. Learn how to sign in to Gemini Apps.
Start a new chat with Canvas
In the Gemini mobile app
- Open the Gemini mobile app

- Below the text box, tap Add

- In the text box, enter your prompt.
- Tap Submit

- Below the text box, tap Canvas

What you can do with apps in Canvas
Edit apps & code
You can use the prompt text box to ask Gemini to make updates to your app or directly edit the code. Changes in Canvas are auto-saved.
Preview the app & find errors and logs- To preview the app, at the top, tap Preview
.
- To find errors and logs from the preview, at the top, tap Show console
.
Important: To add AI to your app, you must be signed in to Gemini Apps and be 18 or over.
You can add Gemini-powered features to your app, like text and image generation.
- Open the chat with the app you want to edit.
- At the bottom rightl, tap Add Gemini features

- In the chat at the bottom, Gemini will provide an overview of what AI feature was added to the app. You can respond in the text box and ask Gemini to make additional changes.
Share apps or copy code
Share apps- Open the chat with the app you want to share.
- At the top, tap Share
.
- Review the app info.
- Choose how you want to share:
- To share the link: At the top, next to the
g.co/gemini/sharelink, tap Copy link. Then paste it where you want to share, like in a messaging app, an email draft, or a forum thread.
- To share on an available social platform: At the bottom, tap the social platform and follow the on-screen instructions.
- To share the link: At the top, next to the
Review app info
When you create a shareable public link for your app, you’ll be able to review info about your app. Anyone with that public link can view and edit data associated with the app. You can ask Gemini to make changes and Gemini will apply updates to your app’s code.
- Share data between users.
- Use Gemini-powered features. For example, if you want your app to use AI to generate text and images.
- Save data across sessions and devices. For example, if you create an app to track something over time.
- Open the chat with the app you want to copy or export.
- At the top, tap More
.
- Choose what you want to do:
- To copy the code: Tap Copy code
- To open Python code in Colab: Tap Export to Colab.
- To copy the code: Tap Copy code
- Open the chat with the app you want to add to your home screen.
- At the top, tap More
- Enter a shortcut name for the app.
- Tap Add.
What you can do with docs in Canvas
Ask Gemini to help edit selections
Important: You can only edit text style and format in the Gemini web app on desktop. This functionality is not available on mobile devices.
In the Canvas space, you can directly edit the text or ask Gemini to help you in the prompt box. Changes are auto-saved.
- Go to gemini.google.com or open the Gemini mobile app
- Open the chat you want to edit.
- In the text box, enter a prompt for what you want updated.
- Tap Submit

Create something based on a Canvas doc
Important: For now, this feature isn’t available to users under 18.
- Open the chat with the doc you want to edit.
- At the top, tap More
- Select what you want to create:
- To create a custom visual or app, in the text box, enter a prompt that describes what you want to turn your report or doc into.
- To generate an Audio Overview, tap Audio Overview

Share & export docs from Canvas
Copy or export from Canvas- Go to gemini.google.com or open the Gemini mobile app
- Open the chat with the doc you want to copy or export.
- At the top, tap Share
- Choose what you want to do:
- To copy the text or code: Tap Copy
- To open text in a new Google Doc: Tap Export to Docs.

Copy & edit shared Canvas content
Important:
- For now, this feature isn’t available to users under 18.
- Shared links only open in gemini.google.com. You can’t open shared Canvas content in the Gemini mobile app.
When you open a public link to someone else’s shared Canvas content, you can make a copy and continue editing it with Canvas on your own. If your Gemini Apps Activity is on, the shared Canvas content will be stored in your Gemini Apps Activity. Learn how to manage and delete your Gemini Apps activity.
- Click the public link.
- At the bottom, click Try Gemini Canvas.
- Click Make a copy.
