Control your Android mobile device & apps with Utilities

When Gemini is your mobile assistant on Android, you can ask the Gemini mobile app to do certain actions for you with the Utilities app. For example, you can ask it to manage your alarms and timers, open apps, reply to notifications, control your media, and more.

Important:

The Utilities app is only available in the Gemini mobile app on Android mobile devices.
- To use the Utilities app, Gemini must be your primary mobile assistant. Learn how to use Gemini as your mobile assistant.
We’re gradually releasing the Utilities app in all languages supported by the Gemini app on Android, so it might not be available to you in your language just yet.
To use apps in Gemini, you must have Gemini Apps Activity on. If it’s on, the Utilities app is enabled by default. You can disable this app at any time on your Apps page in Gemini settings. Learn how to manage apps in Gemini.
Connected apps work in the same way for both spoken and typed prompts. On Android mobile devices, if "Hey Google" doesn’t work, check if “Hey Google” and Voice Match are set up.

Set & manage alarms & timers in your clock app

Important:

For Samsung mobile devices, the Gemini mobile app uses the Samsung Clock app.
For other mobile devices, if the Clock app by Google is enabled on your device, the Gemini mobile app uses it over any other clock app.
For third-party clock apps, the Gemini mobile app can only set alarms and timers. Other actions aren’t supported.

Important: For now, the actions below are available in English only. These actions are being released gradually, so they might not be available to you just yet.

You can ask the Gemini mobile app to read and reply to messages in your notifications, like from messaging and social media apps. For now, the Gemini mobile app cannot read or play voice, image, or video messages.

Tip: To save you time, the Gemini mobile app summarizes lengthy messages or conversations. You can always ask it to read messages in full.

Manage the Gemini app’s access to your notifications

Allow the Gemini app to read and reply to notifications on your lock screen

To allow the Gemini app to read and reply to notifications on your lock screen, you need to turn on Gemini mobile app’s lock screen settings and your device’s sensitive notifications setting.

Step 1: Turn your Gemini mobile app’s lock screen setting on

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gemini mobile app .
At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial Settings.
Tap Gemini on lock screen.
Turn Use Gemini without unlocking on.
Turn Allow calls and messages without unlocking on.

Step 2: Turn on sensitive notifications in your device’s settings

On your Android phone or tablet, open your device’s settings.
Tap Notifications.
Turn Sensitive notifications on.

Tip: You can turn off Gemini Apps lock screen settings or the sensitive notifications setting at any time.

How apps work in Gemini

Gemini only connects to apps that are on your Apps page in Gemini settings. This includes apps you turn on when you specify them in your prompt with an "@" mention.
Gemini checks for apps that can help it generate a more helpful response. If Gemini finds an app that can help, it automatically sends information from your conversation and other relevant information to that app. For example, Gemini will send your location data to Google Maps if you ask for coffee shops near you and the Google Maps app is on in your Apps page in Gemini settings.
Gemini won’t access your personal content in other services without your permission. Some apps are designed to automatically work with Gemini apps.
If you directly interact with another Google service in Gemini Apps, your activity might be saved by that other service. For example, if you watch a YouTube video in a Gemini app, YouTube may:
- Collect your personal information.
- Store and use that information according to YouTube’s terms of service.
- Store your watch history in your YouTube History. Learn how to manage your YouTube watch history.
Gemini Apps can connect with third-party apps and services. When they do, Gemini Apps share information with those apps and services to fulfill your requests. That information is then used by those third-party apps and services according to their own developers' privacy policies.
If you disable the YouTube app, you can still talk Live about a video you’re viewing in the YouTube app.
