This article describes how to use Canvas to create and work with documents in Gemini Enterprise – Business edition.
Create a document in Canvas
To create a document in Canvas:
- Sign in to Gemini Enterprise – Business edition (business.gemini.google/).
- Start a new chat.
- Select the Tools button, and select Canvas (Preview).
- Enter a writing-related prompt.
- Optional: To upload files or an image with your prompt, click
Add files.
- Click Submit. Canvas will assess the prompt and create a document, which opens in the Canvas editor on the right.
Edit a document in Canvas
In the Canvas space, you can directly edit the text or ask Gemini to help you in the prompt box. Changes are auto-saved.
Ask for help to edit selections
- Open the chat you want to edit.
- In the Canvas panel, use the cursor to select the text that you want to edit.
- In the text box, enter a prompt for what you want updated.
- Press Enter.
Tip: Once you select the text you want to edit, you can also type a prompt in the Ask Gemini text box.
Ask for quick edits
- Open the chat you want to edit.
- In the Canvas panel on the right, choose how you want to change it:
- To adjust the length of text: Click Change length and select your desired length.
- To adjust the tone of text: Click Change tone and select how casual or formal you want it to be.
Edit text style and format in a document
- Open the chat you want to edit.
- In the Canvas panel, use the cursor to select the text that you want to edit.
- At the top, use the toolbar to edit your text. You can:
- Stylize headings
- Bold text
- Italicize text
- Create bulleted lists
- Create numbered lists
Copy and export a document in Canvas
Copy a document in Canvas
- Open the chat with the document you want to copy.
- At the top right of the Canvas panel, click the Copy button.
The contents of the document will be copied to your clipboard in Markdown.
Export a document in Canvas
- Open the chat with the Canvas document you want to copy.
- At the top right of the Canvas panel, click Export and select Export to Docs.
The contents of the document will be copied to a new Google Docs document.
