How to add tablets and laptops to your Google Fi plan

Types:

• You can connect your tablets and laptops with data-only SIMs.
• Most modern devices can download an eSIM, but if your device requires a data-only SIM, you can order one at no charge.
• Data-only SIMs work with compatible devices.
• To use the data-only eSIM benefit, your device must be unlocked and eSIM-capable.

Cost:

• There’s no additional cost to use a data-only SIM.
• Usage on the SIM counts toward your plan’s data usage. Learn more about Google Fi plans. 

Tethering:

• Tethering from a device with a data-only SIM isn’t supported.

Coverage:

• Data-only SIMs provide coverage in 200+ countries and regions. To learn more, check our coverage map.
• Coverage can also vary by device.

Data:

• Data counts towards your monthly high-speed data usage.
• High-speed data for compatible devices is up to 50 GB per person on Unlimited Premium and up to 15 GB per person on Flexible. Once the data is used up, data speed slows to 256 kbps.

Number of data-only SIMs:

• You can add up to 4 data-only SIMs per line.
• You can also use the same data-only SIM with multiple devices.

Important: Before you begin, make sure you’re connected to good Wi-Fi.

Download a data-only eSIM:

1. On another device, go to your Google Fi account page.
2. Select Connect your tablet.
3. To download your data-only eSIM, scan the QR code with your device’s camera.

Order a data-only SIM card:

1. On your device, go to your Google Fi account page.
2. Select Connect your tablet Order for free.
3. Follow the on-screen steps.

Activate your card:

1. Go to fi.google.com/data.
2. Enter the code found on the packaging of your SIM card.
3. Insert your SIM card.

If you want to activate a data-only eSIM or SIM card on an iPad, update your network settings:

1. On your iPad, open the Settings app.
2. Tap Cellular Cellular Data Network.
3. In your “Settings” field, enter these texts:
   • Cellular Data APN: h2g2
   • LTE Setup APN: h2g2

About SIM adapters

For Google Fi, you should use a nano SIM card. If your device has a different-sized SIM tray, you’ll need a SIM adapter. You can purchase an adapter online or at many electronic retailers.

Find out what SIM card your device uses

To find the SIM card size for your device, go to the manufacturer’s website. If your device uses a micro SIM, you should buy a nano SIM to micro SIM adapter.
