How to add Google Fi Device Protection
Enroll in Google Fi Device Protection by purchasing your phone through Google Fi. You can add Device Protection when you purchase a third party, non-Pixel phone or within 30 days after the phone ships. Coverage begins on the Device Protection enrollment or device shipment date, whichever is later. You don’t have to enroll in Device Protection to purchase or finance a device or to sign up for Google Fi wireless service.
As of August 20, 2025, if you purchase a Pixel device, you can’t enroll it in Device Protection. Pixel devices can enroll in Pixel Care+ or Pixel Care+ with Loss and Theft.
Devices from third party retailers can’t be enrolled into Device Protection.
To enroll in Device Protection when you purchase a new phone through Google Fi, follow these steps:
- Select the Device Protection button and complete your purchase.
- Activate Google Fi service within 30 days of the phone’s shipment.
Your first statement includes a prorated Device Protection charge. This charge covers from your phone’s coverage start date, found in your coverage documents, to your statement date. There will also be a charge for the next full month of coverage.
If you purchase Device Protection but don’t activate Google Fi service within 30 days of the phone’s shipment:
- If you haven't filed a claim, your Device Protection is automatically canceled and you won’t be charged for it.
- For an approved claim with a device issued during this period, you’ll be charged the deductible and a prorated amount for Device Protection. After this period, you’ll no longer have Device Protection.
If you didn't enroll in Device Protection with your Google Fi phone purchase, you can still enroll within 30 days of its ship date. Follow these steps:
- If you’re new to Google Fi, make sure Google Fi service is activated.
- On the Google Fi website, go to Your plan.
- Select the device that you would like to enroll.
- Under "Device Protection," select Enroll. On the next screen, select Enroll again.
In your first statement, you’ll find a prorated Device Protection charge (from coverage start date to statement date) and the next full month’s coverage.
Learn about Google Fi Device Protection
Review Device Protection for a group planDevice Protection cost and coverage are the same as those for individual plans when you're part of a Google Fi group plan.
Who can manage Device Protection:
- Device purchaser: They can enroll the device, file claims, and cancel Device Protection.
- Group plan owner: They’re billed for all Device Protection monthly charges. They can also cancel Device Protection for any device on their plan.
If you join a group plan:
- You can keep your existing Device Protection coverage and you remain the account holder.
- The group plan owner now becomes responsible for all payments and can cancel your plan.
Active Device Protection coverage depends on receipt of payments. If a group plan owner doesn’t want to pay for your Device Protection coverage, they can cancel your coverage, or you can leave the group plan.
If you leave a group plan:
- As a Device Protection account holder : you can continue your coverage by joining another group plan or signing up for a new individual plan.
- Your Device Protection coverage ends once you leave Google Fi.
If a group owner enrolled a device you currently use, they can continue or cancel that coverage.
All terms and conditions for your Device Protection coverage, along with other important information, are sent in your welcome email after enrollment.
