Troubleshoot Google Fi's international service

If you travel abroad and can’t use Google Fi service, try the steps below to fix the issue. After each step, check your phone to know if the issue is fixed.

If you don't have a phone designed for Google Fi, some international features might not be available. For more information, check our list of compatible phones.

1. Check Google Fi’s international roaming policy

To check if your international data is suspended, check your Google Fi app homepage. For activation, extent of use, suspension exit, and exceptions, review Google Fi’s international roaming policy.

Learn about the more than 200 supported countries or regions where you can use Google Fi.

If you're outside of the supported destinations:

  • You can't use your phone for cellular calls, text, or data.
2. Call a valid number with the correct format

Call other countries or regions from the US

To call an international number from the US:

  • Canada and US Virgin Islands: Dial 1 (area code) (local number).
  • To all other countries or regions: Touch and hold 0 until you find on the display, then dial (country or region code) (area code) (local number). For example, to call the UK, dial + 44 (area code) (local number).

Make calls while outside the US

To call international numbers or the US while outside the US:

  • To call a number in the country or region you’re visiting: Dial (area code) (local number).
  • To call another country or region: Touch and hold 0 until you find on the display, then dial (country or region code) (area code) (local number). For example, to call the UK from Japan, dial + 44 (area code) (local number).
    • If this number format doesn’t work, use the exit code of the country or region you visit. Dial (exit code) (destination country or region code) (area code) (local number).
