To give you better audio quality on your phone calls, HD calling is now available on Google Fi. With HD calling, you can enjoy high fidelity sound for clear conversations. This feature helps make your call easier to hear and be heard.
Understand HD Voice & HD+ Voice
HD Voice
You can hear a rich, full sound during your calls with HD Voice. For HD Voice to be active, both people on the call must use specific networks:
- Voice over LTE (VoLTE)
- Voice over 5G (VoNR)
- Wi-Fi calling
HD+ Voice
For amazing sound and reliability, HD+ Voice uses the latest technology. To experience HD+ Voice, both people on the call must use supported devices and networks.
About in-call indicators
If you’re on an HD or HD+ Voice call with an Android device, an icon shows in the in-call display that indicates the feature is active. If you use an iPhone or iPad, you won’t find an indicator. Your call can still use HD or HD+ Voice quality.
Understand how the icon works
The HD or HD+ icon shows up after the call connects. You won't find the icon while the phone is dialing or ringing. Here's how it works in different scenarios:
- On hold: If you place an HD or HD+ call on hold, the icon remains visible.
- Conference calls: If you add someone to the call who’s not on an HD-capable line, the HD icon disappears for the conference call's duration. The person with the lowest quality connection determines the audio quality for everyone.
- Network changes: If you switch networks during a call, for example, from VoLTE to a non-HD network, the icon disappears because the new network doesn't support it.
Check call history
You can also find the HD or HD+ icon in your call history. This helps you identify which past calls had enhanced audio quality.
