Use Silent Reading mode

This article is for teachers.

Silent Reading mode allows you to assign a story to a student, but the student does not have to read the book out loud. The student will still be able to get regular Read Along support and will receive assistance whenever they struggle pronouncing a word.

  • This can be a solution to prevent multiple students from reading aloud in a noisy classroom.
  • This can save time and offer students reading support.

Important: If you create an assignment in Silent Reading mode, the only analytics after the completion of the book is a comprehension score. In Silent Reading mode:

  • Accuracy, phonics data, words needing practice, and words per minute aren’t scored.
  • There’s no data on the dashboards except for comprehension.
