Add content to Read Along in Classroom

This article is for teachers.

You can now add your own content to Read Along in Classroom.

Important:

  • Read Along in Classroom is available globally with Education Plus or the Teaching and Learning add-on
  • Educators can add content to Read Along in Classroom in:
    • American English
    • Arabic
    • Brazilian Portuguese
    • Spanish
    • Urdu

Add a story with your own content

Important: Always review the content that you create to make sure that it's accurate.

Step 1: Add your content

  1. On your computer, go to classroom.google.com.
  2. Select a class.
  3. Click Classwork and then Create and then Assignment.
  4. On the 'Assignment' page, click Read Along and then Create.
  5. In the side panel, click Create.
  6. Select your preferred language.
  7. Enter a title for the story that you create.
  8. In the text box in the centre of the screen, paste or type the content of the story.
    • To create a new page, use a double line break in the text.
    • The maximum limit for a book is 1,000 characters.
    • You can't include images.
  9. To make sure that the content displays as you want it to, click Preview.

Step 2: Review and attach the story to an assignment

  1. To review the story, at the top right, click Preview.
    • To progress through the story, on the right, click the right arrow .
    • To go back and edit the story, on the left, click Back to editing.
  2. If you approve of the content, at the top right, click Attach.
    1. To confirm your review, in the pop-up, tick the box.
    2. Click Attach and then Got it.
      • The story will be ready for students in an hour, but can be assigned by the teacher right away.

Important: Content is only available to the teacher who created it and the students that it is assigned to.

  1. On the 'Assignment' page, complete the assignment details.
  2. At the top right, click Assign.
    • The assignment shows up in your students' list of assignments in Google Classroom.

(Optional) Step 4: Delete content

Important:

  • Upon deletion, the content is removed and you can no longer access it.
  • Even when content is deleted, you can still check a student's performance and progress on the 'Class' and 'Individual insights' dashboards within Read Along.
  1. On the left of the 'Assignment' page, click Access your existing reading material.
    • The screen displays all of the content that you created in Read Along.

  1. Next to the book or story that you want to delete, click More More and then Delete.
