You can now add your own content to Read Along in Classroom. This article covers the following topics:
Important:
- You can add up to 100 total stories to Read Along per day. This limit is a combination of stories you type yourself and stories you generate with Gemini.
- Read Along in Classroom is available globally with Education Plus or the Teaching and Learning add-on.
- Educators can add content to Read Along in Classroom in:
- American English
- Arabic
- Brazilian Portuguese
- Spanish
- Urdu
Generate a story with Gemini
Important: This feature is only available in English.
You can use Gemini in Read Along to generate a story.
Step 1: Create a new assignment in Read Along
- On your computer, go to classroom.google.com.
- Select a class.
- Click Classwork
Create
Assignment.
- On the "Assignment" page, click Read Along.
Step 2: Enter information to generate your story
- In the "Read Along" page, at the top, click Write with AI
.
- Select the grade level.
- Enter the topic.
- Optional: You can also enter additional notes and keywords.
- At the bottom, click Generate Story.
Step 3: Review the story & assign it to students
Important: When you generate a story with Gemini, it may sometimes include sections like "Takeaways" or "Interesting Facts" at the end. You can use these sections as an opportunity for class discussions or to create learning guides.
- When story generation is complete, a pop-up shows with the message "Always review generated content."
- Click Got it.
- To preview the story, at the top right, click Preview.
- If you want to adjust the pagination, edit the content to include a double-line break where you want a new page to begin.
- If you don't like the story, you can edit or regenerate it.
- If you regenerate a story, it overrides the previous one.
- When you have the final version of your story, a book is created.
- In the pop-up, you need to acknowledge that you reviewed the content.
- Attach your generated story to an assignment.
- Assign the work to students.
Add a story with your own content
Important: Always review the content you create to make sure it’s accurate.
Step 1: Add your content
- On your computer, go to classroom.google.com.
- Select a class.
- Click Classwork
Add
Assignment.
- On the “Assignment” page, click Read Along
Create.
- In the side panel, click Create.
- Select your preferred language.
- Enter a title for the story you create.
- In the text box in the center of the screen, paste or type the content of the story.
- To create a new page, use a double line break in the text.
- The maximum limit for a book is 1,000 characters.
- You can’t include images.
- To make sure the content displays as you want it to, click Preview.
Step 2: Review & attach the story to an assignment
- To review the story, at the top right, click Preview.
- To progress through the story, on the right, click the right arrow
.
- To go back and edit the story, on the left, click Back to editing.
- To progress through the story, on the right, click the right arrow
- If you approve of the content, at the top right, click Attach.
- To confirm your review, in the pop-up, check the box.
- Click Attach
Got it.
- The story will be ready for students in an hour but can be assigned by the teacher right away.
Step 3: Assign the story to your students
Important: Content is only available to the teacher who created it and the students it is assigned to.
- On the “Assignment” page, complete the assignment details.
- At the top right, click Assign.
- The assignment shows up in your students’ list of assignments in Google Classroom.
Delete a story
Important:
- If you delete a story, you can't get it back.
- You can only delete stories that you've added.
- If you delete a story from an assignment, students will no longer be able to read it. You can still see the results for students who finished the story before it was deleted.
- On your computer, go to readalong.google.com/mycontent.
- Next to the story you want to delete, click More
Delete.
