Collaborate with Gemini in Google Drive (Workspace Labs)

With Gemini in Google Drive, you can:

  • Summarize a long document or an entire folder so you can quickly get the main points.
  • Discuss a topic that requires synthesizing information from one or more files in your Drive, either across all of your files or within a specific folder.
  • Retrieve quick facts about a project or topic without the need to find and read the relevant documents.
  • Create new Google files and folders.

Get started with Gemini in Drive

  1. On your computer, go to drive.google.com.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini .
  3. In the side panel, select a suggested prompt or write your own prompt.
  4. Optional: To remove your history, click More options More and then Clear history.

Important: You lose your conversation history when:

  • You reload your browser.
  • You close and reopen the document.
  • Your computer goes offline.

Things to ask Gemini in Drive

The file types you use most frequently are supported by Gemini in Drive. They include:

  • Text documents
  • Spreadsheets
  • Presentations
  • (PDFs)

If your folder contains a large number of files or subfolders, Gemini may not incorporate every file in its response.

Give feedback on generated output

Gemini for Google Workspace is constantly learning and may not be able to support your request. Because feedback may be human readable, please do not submit data that contains personal, confidential, or sensitive information.

If you get a suggestion that’s inaccurate or that you feel is unsafe, you can submit feedback. Your feedback can help improve AI-assisted Workspace features and broader Google efforts in AI.

  1. At the bottom right of the generated text, click Good suggestion or Bad suggestion .
  2. If you select Bad suggestion , you can select the issue you found and enter additional feedback.

Optional:

  • To review data that’ll be attached with your feedback, at the bottom, select the data. 
  • If you don’t want to include the data with your feedback, to help us improve the product experience, uncheck the box next to “Attach collected data to your feedback.”
  1. Click Next.
  2. Review additional context that you can share with your feedback. If you don’t want to include the additional context with your feedback, uncheck the box next to “Additional context.”
  3. Click Submit.

To provide general feedback about Gemini, at the top, click Help Help & Feedback And then Send feedback to Google.

Turn off Gemini in Drive

To turn off any of the features on Google Workspace Labs, you must exit Workspace Labs. If you exit, you’ll permanently lose access to all Workspace Labs features, and you won’t be able to rejoin Workspace Labs. Learn more about how to exit Workspace Labs.

How Workspace Labs data in Google Drive is collected

When you use the Gemini in Drive side panel, Google uses and stores the following data:

  • Prompts you enter or select
  • Generated text
  • Google Workspace content that you have access to that is referenced to generate content (both Google-selected input and user-provided input).
  • Your feedback on the Gemini in Drive side panel.
