Generate a slide with Gemini in Google Slides (Gemini Alpha & Workspace Experiments)

Feature availability
  • Generate a personalized slide with Gemini in Google Slides is available as part of Gemini Alpha, which is available for work accounts only. Your administrator controls access to Gemini Alpha work accounts. If you can't find this feature, your administrator may not have Alpha features enabled for your organization.
  • This feature is also available in Google Workspace Experiments, which is a trusted tester program for users on personal accounts to try new AI features. To check if you have access to Workspace Experiments features, open a new presentation in Google Slides and look for a bottom bar. Learn how to get started with Google Workspace Experiments.
  • This feature is also available for Google AI Ultra and Google AI Pro accounts.

  • This feature is currently available on desktop and in English only.

With Gemini in Google Slides, you can generate and edit slides with a prompt. It helps you build your presentation and lets you adjust the images and content on the slide at any time.

Generate a slide

You can create a new slide from scratch or reuse the visual style of an existing presentation with Gemini in Google Slides.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini .
  3. In the prompt bar, enter a prompt that describes the slides you want to create.
  4. Optional:
    • To match a different presentation’s visual style:
      1. Click Match a presentation style and then Add from Drive.
      2. Select a presentation.
      3. Click Add.
    • To start from scratch, click More options More and then Clear history.
  5. Once the preview displays:
    • To insert the generated slide as a new slide, beside “Replace,” click Down arrow Down arrow and then Insert.
    • To replace the selected slide with the generated slide, click Replace.

Tips:

  • You can only generate one slide at a time.
  • You can make edits to the generated slide.

Edit slides with Gemini

You can directly edit or improve a current slide’s design or content with a prompt in Google Slides.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini .
  3. In the prompt bar, describe the changes that you want. For example:
    • “Simplify this slide with less text and add an image.”
    • “Convert to two columns.”
  4. Once the preview of the updated slide displays:
    • To insert the generated slide as a new slide, beside “Replace,” click Down arrow Down arrow and then Insert.
    • To replace the selected slide with the generated slide, click Replace.

Reference other files to create content

You can ask Gemini to use specific files to write, edit, or refine content. For example: “Create a summary slide based on @ProjectNotes.”

  1. In the side panel, at the bottom, click Add sources and then Add from Drive.
    • Or, you can type “@” and then search and select from the menu.
  2. Select one or more files.
  3. Click Add.
  4. To review any files Gemini used, in the right side panel, click Sources .

Google Workspace with Gemini is constantly learning and may not be able to support your request.

If you get a suggestion that’s inaccurate or that you feel is unsafe, you can let us know by submitting feedback. Your feedback can help improve AI-assisted Workspace features and broader Google efforts in AI.

Because feedback may be human readable, do not submit data that contains personal, confidential, or sensitive information.

  1. Below the generated content, click Good suggestion or Bad suggestion .
  2. If you click Bad suggestion , you can select the issue you find and enter additional feedback.
  3. Click Submit.
