Feature availability
- This feature is available through our early access testing program, Google Workspace Labs, which is an invite only program for users to try new AI features.
- To check if you have access to Workspace Labs features, open Google Vids. A window to help you start creating in Vids will appear if you have access. Learn where you can use Workspace Labs features.
- For users with access to Workspace Labs, note that new features for Vids are rolling out gradually, and may not be available to you yet.
Generate a script with AI in Google Vids to use for voiceovers, video clips, and narrated screen recordings. You can also write your own script.
When you record a script, you can create an:
- Audio or video clip in the Vids recording studio
- AI-generated voiceover
Tips:
- If you create a video with “Help me create,” it automatically generates a voiceover. Create a video with AI in Google Vids.
- Generated voiceovers are based on AI models. Options for newly generated voiceovers and voices may change as models are updated. Voiceovers that are already generated for existing videos will not change.
Generate a Voiceover with Google Vids
Create or generate a script
Use scripts in Vids to generate a voiceover or enable recording with a teleprompter in the Vids recording studio. To generate a first draft of your video with a suggested script and a voiceover for each scene, use "Help me create."
- On your computer, open Vids.
- Select the scene for which you want to create a script.
- To open the script sidepanel, in the sidebar, click Scripts
or at the top click View
Show scripts. By default, the scripts sidepanel shows scripts for all scenes.
- At the top of the scripts sidepanel, toggle
on to show scripts for the current scene only or toggle
off to show scripts for all scenes.
- At the top of the scripts sidepanel, toggle
- In the sidepanel, type your script.
- Your script will automatically be saved for future use.
Record your own voiceover
- On your computer, open Vids.
- To open the script sidepanel, in the sidebar, click Scripts
or at the top click View
Show scripts.
- You can also use "Help me create" to generate a script and a generated voiceover. Learn how to create a video with AI in Vids.
- At the bottom of the script side panel, click Record myself

Generate an AI Voiceover
You can select an option to generate an AI voiceover for one scene at a time, or for all scripts at once.
- On your computer, open Google Vids.
- To open the script sidepanel, in the sidebar, click Scripts
or at the top click View
Show scripts.
- To generate an AI voiceover for all scenes:
Important: If you generate a voiceover for all scenes, any pre-existing generated voiceovers will be replaced with the newly generated ones. This will not replace voiceovers you’ve recorded yourself. By default, scenes will be extended to match the length of the voiceover. This can be disabled with the “Extend scenes to match voiceovers” toggle.
- To show all scene scripts, at the top of the script sidepanel, click
.
- At the bottom of the sidepanel, click Generate voiceover
.
- To generate an AI voiceover only for the current scene:
- To show the current scene script, at the top of the script sidepanel, click
.
- At the bottom of the sidepanel, click Generate voiceover
.
- When the voice selector pops up, select a voice.
- To preview the voiceover, click Play
.
- Add the voiceover:
- To add a voiceover for one scene, click Insert into timeline.
- To add a voiceover for all scenes, click Add voiceovers to all scenes.
- To preview the voiceover, click Play
Tips:
- You can only generate a voiceover in English. The voiceover supports plain text only, without any emojis or symbols.
- The scripts you use to generate a voiceover can’t exceed 2,500 characters.

- Your Workspace Labs Data may also be read, rated, annotated, and reviewed by human reviewers. Importantly, where Google uses Google-selected input (as described in the Privacy Notice) to generate output, Google will aggregate and/or pseudonymize that content and resulting output before it is viewed by human reviewers, unless it is specifically provided as part of your feedback to Google.

Important: To turn off any of the features on Google Workspace Labs you must exit Workspace Labs. If you exit, you will permanently lose access to all Workspace Labs features, and you won’t be able to rejoin Workspace Labs. Learn more about how to exit Workspace Labs.
