Add an AI-generated image in Google Vids (Workspace Labs)

Feature availability

  • This feature is available through our early access testing program, Google Workspace Labs, which is an invite only program for users to try new AI features.
  • To check if you have access to Workspace Labs features, open Google Vids. A window to help you start creating in Vids will appear if you have access. Learn where you can use Workspace Labs features.
  • For users with access to Workspace Labs, note that new features for Vids are rolling out gradually, and may not be available to you yet.

In Google Vids, you can use “Generate an image” to create images with artificial intelligence. For example, you can ask Gemini to create an image of a picnic or an abstract painting.

Insert images into Google Vids

Use AI to generate and insert original images into a scene.

  1. On your computer, open a video in Google Vids.
  2. On the right of your canvas, click Generate an image .
  3. In the panel on the right, enter a prompt. For example:
    • “A beautiful photograph of a Hawaiian beach at sunset with palm trees in the distance”
    • “A plate of freshly baked blueberry muffins on a wooden kitchen table next to a large window”
    • “Watercolor painting of hydrangeas in a water pitcher”
  4. Optional:
    • To customize the image you create, click Add a style.
    • To customize the image ratio, select:
      • Square
      • Wide
      • Tall
  5. To generate images, click Create.
    • To send feedback about the image, click Good suggestion or Bad suggestion .
  6. To insert a specific image:
    1. Hover over the image.
    2. Click the image and then Insert.

Tips:

  • For better results, when you create a prompt, you can include the subject, setting, distance to subject, materials, or background. For example: “A close up of a boat made out of wood on a lake surrounded by trees at sunrise.“
  • Avoid figurative language in your prompt.

Give feedback about “Generate an image”

Gemini for Google Workspace is constantly learning and may not be able to support your request.

If you get a suggestion that’s inaccurate or that you feel is unsafe, you can let us know by submitting feedback. Your feedback can help improve AI-assisted Workspace features and broader Google efforts in AI.

Because feedback may be human readable, do not submit data that contains personal, confidential, or sensitive information.

To provide feedback on the images that Gemini generates, on the preview image, click Good suggestion or Bad suggestion .

To provide general feedback on this feature:

  1. In your menu bar, click Help and then Help Vids improve.
  2. Describe your issue or suggestions.
  3. To help identify the issue, select Capture screenshot.
  4. Click Send.

How Workspace Labs data in Google Vids is collected

When you use "Generate an image” in Google Vids, Google uses and stores the following data:

  • Prompts you enter or select.
  • Generated text and images.
  • Google Workspace content that you have access to that is referenced to generate content (both Google-selected input and user-provided input).
  • Your feedback on “Generate an image.”
