Use Gemini in Chrome

With Gemini in Chrome, you can get AI assistance in your desktop browser to easily get key takeaways, clarify concepts, find answers and more. To provide the most relevant responses, Gemini in Chrome uses the content of the browser tab you’re viewing.

Gemini in Chrome is a feature of Chrome on desktop. It is a separate experience from the Gemini web app, where you won’t be able to share page content like you can with Gemini in Chrome.

What you need

Important: Gemini in Chrome is not available to all users at this time.
Gemini in Chrome is currently available for Mac and Windows devices in the U.S. for users who:  If you use Gemini in Chrome with a work or school Google account, access must be enabled by your administrator. Learn more about using Gemini Apps with a work or school Google account.
 

How to chat with Gemini in Chrome

To chat with Gemini in Chrome:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right in your browser, click Gemini in Chrome .
    • You will need to opt in the first time you use Gemini in Chrome. To opt in, after reviewing the initial set up window, click Yes, I’m in
  3. Get to Gemini in Chrome faster with these keyboard shortcuts or choose your own.
    • Mac: Ctrl + G
    • Windows: Alt + G

You can also switch between your tab and the Gemini in Chrome window with keyboard shortcuts:

  • Windows: Alt + Shift + G
  • Mac: Ctrl + ⌘ + G
Important: Gemini in Chrome on your Mac menu bar or Windows system tray and the keyboard shortcut will only be available after you opt in to using Gemini in Chrome.

What you can do with Gemini in Chrome

After you opt into Gemini in Chrome, a floating window will appear where you can chat directly with Gemini. In the floating window, you can ask questions to get help in the moment with anything you’re exploring. 

For example, try asking Gemini in Chrome to:
  • Summarize key takeaways from an article
  • Explain a complex topic in a different way
  • Help you test your knowledge of a new subject you’re learning
  • Modify a recipe to meet dietary needs
  • Compare information or make recommendations based on your preferences

Share a page to chat with Gemini in Chrome

To share a page with Gemini in Chrome, in your Chrome browser, click Gemini in Chrome  and then Share current page . Learn more about how Gemini in Chrome works with your data.

To help you know which Chrome tab Gemini is using, there will be a blue glow around the page you are sharing with Gemini, and a screen icon will appear on top of the shared tab. If you switch pages, the sharing button will update to show you the page Gemini is currently using to respond.

To stop sharing a page with Gemini in Chrome, hover over Sharing this page, then click Stop sharing page . You can also turn off sharing page content with Gemini in Chrome in your Chrome settings.

After you stop sharing a page, the sharing button will say “Share current page” and both the tab icon and the blue glow will disappear until you share a page again.  

Access recent chats with Gemini or start a new chat.
To find your recent Gemini chats in the Gemini in Chrome window, click More options  and then Recent chats , then find the chat you want to use. If you want to start a new chat, click More options  and then Start new chat.

Go Live with Gemini in Chrome

You can talk naturally using your voice with Gemini in Chrome to brainstorm ideas, discuss complex topics, prepare for a presentation or interview, and more. Learn more about how Google works with Gemini Live data.

Go Live with Gemini in Chrome: 

  1. At the bottom of the Gemini in Chrome window, click Live .
  2. On the Go Live with Gemini page, click OK.
  3. Choose your preferred Gemini voice.
  4. Start talking – you can even interrupt mid-response when you want to add more details or change the topic.

Configure your Gemini in Chrome experience

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, select More  and then Settings.
  3. Under AI Innovations click Gemini in Chrome   and then Permissions
    • turn Precise location on or off.
    • turn Page content sharing on or off.
    • turn Microphone on or off.

If you don’t find Gemini in Chrome

Gemini in Chrome is rolling out to users over time, so it may not be available in your country or territory yet. 
  • Sign in to your Chrome browser with the Google Account that’s subscribed to the Google AI Pro or Ultra plan.
  • Use Chrome in English
  • Use Chrome in the U.S. and have a U.S.-based Google Account
  • Update your Chrome browser to the latest version (137+)
If Gemini in Chrome still doesn’t appear, try restarting your Chrome browser. If you just signed up for Google AI Pro or Ultra, it may take 24 hours before you get Gemini in Chrome in your browser. 

Send feedback or report a problem with Gemini in Chrome

To report a problem or give feedback, in the Gemini in Chrome window, at the top right, click More  and then Send feedback.

If you get a response that’s inaccurate or that you feel is unsafe, you can also give feedback on that response when you click Good response  or Bad response  beneath Gemini’s response.

To report a legal issue, under Gemini’s response, click Flag legal issue .
