With Gemini in Chrome, you can get AI assistance in your desktop browser to easily get key takeaways, clarify concepts, find answers and more. To provide the most relevant responses, Gemini in Chrome uses the content of the browser tab you’re viewing.
Gemini in Chrome is a feature of Chrome on desktop. It is a separate experience from the Gemini web app, where you won’t be able to share page content like you can with Gemini in Chrome.
What you need
- are Google AI Pro or Ultra subscribers over age 18 who are signed in to Chrome;
- have updated to the most recent version of Chrome. Learn how to update Chrome;
- and have Chrome’s language set to English.
How to chat with Gemini in Chrome
To chat with Gemini in Chrome:
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right in your browser, click Gemini in Chrome
.
- You will need to opt in the first time you use Gemini in Chrome. To opt in, after reviewing the initial set up window, click Yes, I’m in.
- Get to Gemini in Chrome faster with these keyboard shortcuts or choose your own.
- Mac: Ctrl + G
- Windows: Alt + G
You can also switch between your tab and the Gemini in Chrome window with keyboard shortcuts:
- Windows: Alt + Shift + G
- Mac: Ctrl + ⌘ + G

Share a page to chat with Gemini in Chrome
To share a page with Gemini in Chrome, in your Chrome browser, click Gemini in Chrome

To help you know which Chrome tab Gemini is using, there will be a blue glow around the page you are sharing with Gemini, and a screen icon will appear on top of the shared tab. If you switch pages, the sharing button will update to show you the page Gemini is currently using to respond.
To stop sharing a page with Gemini in Chrome, hover over Sharing this page, then click Stop sharing page . You can also turn off sharing page content with Gemini in Chrome in your Chrome settings.
After you stop sharing a page, the sharing button will say “Share current page” and both the tab icon and the blue glow will disappear until you share a page again.
Access recent chats with Gemini or start a new chat.
To find your recent Gemini chats in the Gemini in Chrome window, click More options

, then find the chat you want to use. If you want to start a new chat, click More options

Go Live with Gemini in Chrome:
- At the bottom of the Gemini in Chrome window, click Live

- On the Go Live with Gemini page, click OK.
- Choose your preferred Gemini voice.
- Start talking – you can even interrupt mid-response when you want to add more details or change the topic.
Configure your Gemini in Chrome experience
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, select More
Settings.
- Under AI Innovations click Gemini in Chrome
Permissions,
- turn Precise location on or off.
- turn Page content sharing on or off.
- turn Microphone on or off.
If you don’t find Gemini in Chrome
- Sign in to your Chrome browser with the Google Account that’s subscribed to the Google AI Pro or Ultra plan.
- Use Chrome in English
- Use Chrome in the U.S. and have a U.S.-based Google Account
- Update your Chrome browser to the latest version (137+)

Send feedback.
