You might’ve received a notification that your passwords will soon stop working on your device or in your Chrome settings to update Google Play services.
To maintain your passwords, you need to update Google Play services. You can also migrate your Google Password Manager passwords to Google Play services to keep using them in Chrome.
Update Google Play services
If you need to update Google Play services to maintain your passwords, you’ll find a notification on your device.
- From the notification to update Google Play services, tap Update.
- From "Google Play services," tap Update.
- Your passwords should update automatically.
Manually migrate your passwords to Google Play services
If your passwords weren’t automatically migrated to Google Play services, you need to manually migrate them.
Step 1: Download and delete your passwords from Chrome- On your Android device, open Chrome

- At the top right, tap More
Settings
Google Password Manager.
- Tap Export passwords.
- Under “Enter your screen lock,” you can either:
- Use your thumb print
- Enter your PIN
- Under “Downloads,” tap Save.
- On your Android device, open Chrome
.
- At the top right, tap More
Settings
Google Password Manager.
- At the bottom right, tap Settings
Import.
- Under “Enter your screen lock,” you can either:
- Use your thumb print
- Enter your PIN
- From “Downloads,” select the .csv file with your passwords.
- Tap Import.
- When the import is complete, tap Done.
- To delete the .csv file, tap Delete file.
Important: If you don’t delete your password file, anyone who uses the device can open the file and access your passwords.
