Search your browsing history in Chrome with AI

You can use everyday language to search your browsing history and find sites you visited. This works even if you don't know an exact keyword or website address.

Requirements

To use this feature, you must be located in the US and use Chrome in English. Learn how to translate pages and change Chrome languages.

Manage History search, powered by AI

Important:

  • When you turn on "History search, powered by AI," in addition to the page title and URL, the page contents of the website you browse at that time are stored locally.
  • Only the websites you visit after you turn on this feature can be used by AI-powered history and may appear in your AI best matches.
  • Users on a managed profile or browser may have this feature disabled by your organization. Check your settings for more details.
  • As you browse websites, their page contents are saved and encrypted to your device and might affect Chrome’s performance.
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, select More More and then Settings and then AI Innovations.
  3. Select History search, powered by AI.
  4. Turn History search, powered by AI on or off.
Tip: You can turn off "History search, powered by AI" any time in the Settings.

Find your best match answers from your history search

Important: Website content can change over time. Even if the website content has changed since your last visit, AI-powered history search results use the content present at the time when it was browsed.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, select More More and then History and then History page.
  3. Enter your search.
    • To receive AI-powered results, make your search text or question as precise and detailed as possible. Use 2 or more words to describe what you’re searching for.
    • Filter by specific time periods:
      • Yesterday
      • Last 7 days
      • Last 30 days
  4. Check the results.
    • Best matches from your browsing history:
      • You can find this under the “Best matches from your history” section.
      • The result displays up to 3 best matches.

Tips:

  • When you search short and simple text, you’ll be matched directly to the page title or URL. You won’t find an AI-powered result.
  • You can rate the best match result. At the bottom of the best match result, select Thumbs up or Thumbs down .
    • If you select Thumbs down , you can provide additional feedback on why the result didn’t meet your needs.
  • In the address bar, you can also search for browsing history. Learn how to find a page from your history.
  • To use History search, powered by AI in the side panel, you can also pin "History" in your toolbar. Learn how to pin and unpin a specific side panel.
