Depending on your default search engine, you may be able to control what appears below the search box on your New Tab page.
To customize your New Tab page, you must be signed in to your Google Account and use Google as your default search engine.
In some countries, you may need to manage your linked Google services to use Chrome history for personalization and other services.
Customize your New Tab page
- To visit a site, tap its icon.
- To remove a site, touch and hold its icon. Then, tap Remove.
Manage suggested articles
When you open a new tab, you may find suggested Discover articles. If you're signed in to Chrome, depending on your settings, suggested articles are based on your recent Web & App activity and your interactions with the suggested articles, like when you tap on or scroll past an article.
Tips:
- To provide you with better suggestions, sign in to your Google Account to store your preferences.
- If you indicate that you’re not interested in a topic or publisher, you won’t get suggestions from them again.
Customize shortcuts
Important: Custom shortcuts don’t sync to other devices.
On your New Tab page, you can customize shortcuts. To pin your favorite websites or quickly find your most visited sites, you can create custom Chrome shortcuts.
- On your Android device, open Chrome

- Open a New tab.
- On the shortcuts, you can:
- Add a new shortcut:
- Tap Add new
Add shortcut.
- Enter the name and URL.
- Tap Save.
- Tap Add new
- Pin a shortcut:
- Touch and hold a suggested shortcut.
- Tap Pin shortcut.
- On the left side of the shortcut, you can find your pinned shortcut.
- Edit a shortcut:
- Touch and hold the shortcut that you’d like to edit.
- To edit the name and URL, tap Edit shortcut.
- Rearrange pinned shortcuts:
- Touch and hold the pinned shortcut that you’d like to rearrange.
- Drag the pinned shortcut to its desired position.
- Release the pinned shortcut to save your selection.
- You must pin shortcuts before you can rearrange them, and only pinned shortcuts are rearrangeable.
- Remove or hide a shortcut:
- Touch and hold the shortcut that you’d like to remove or hide.
- Tap Remove.
- Unpin a shortcut:
- Touch and hold the shortcut you’d like to unpin.
- Tap Unpin.
- Add a new shortcut:
Tips:
- If you can’t add more shortcuts, it means you've reached the limit and you’ll need to remove existing shortcuts.
- To manually add a removed site, create a new shortcut for it.
- If you can’t add a shortcut, check if the URL is correct and make sure it doesn't exist yet.
You can change your New Tab page settings through:

- Discover feed: To find recommended content, turn on Discover feed.
- You can manage:
- Activity: Control your Google Account data.
- Interests: Manage content you follow and suggested topics and searches.

You can manage the activity used to personalize your Discover suggestions:
- Stop suggestions based on new activity:
- On your Android device, open Chrome
.
- Open a New tab.
- At the top right, tap More

- On the left, tap Menu
Activity controls.
- Turn off Web & App Activity.
- On your Android device, open Chrome
- Delete per article: If you’re signed in to your Google Account, you can review and delete your Discover activity feed in My Activity.
- Get the latest articles: On your New Tab page, from the top of the screen, pull down to refresh and get your updated content.
- On your Android device, open Chrome

- Open a New tab.
- At the top right, tap More

- Turn Discover feed on or off.
You can share suggested articles from your Discover page on different apps or send them to your other devices.
- To share an article, tap Share

- Tap the app that you want to share on.
Tips:
- To manage interests for your suggested articles:
- On your Android device, open Chrome
.
- Open a New tab.
- At the top right, tap More

- Under “Interests,” tap Following or Not Interested.

- To let Chrome better know your interests: Next to an article in “Discover,” tap More
Not interested in [topic] or Don't show content from [publisher].
To remove an article:
- At the bottom of the article, tap More

- Tap Hide this

To save an article to read later:
- At the bottom of the article, tap More
.
- Tap Add to reading list

To open an article in a new tab:
- At the bottom of the article, tap More
.
- Tap Open in new tab.
On the New Tab page, you can find the Safety Check card to review:
- Compromised passwords stored in Google Password Manager.
- Your Safe Browsing status.
- Permissions from sites you haven’t used recently which have been removed by Chrome.
- Notifications for sites.

- To hide the Safety Check card on the New Tab page, select More

To hide stories in another language:
- On your Android device, open Chrome
.
- Open a New tab.
- Find "Discover."
- At the bottom right of a story, tap More
Don't show stories in [language].
- To get your updated stories, from the top of the screen, pull down to refresh.
Tip: This feature may not be available for all stories.
To unhide stories in another language:
- On your Android device, open Chrome
.
- Open a New tab.
- Find "Discover."
- Next to "Discover," tap Settings
Manage
Hidden.
- Under "TYPES OF INFO," unhide the language you want to bring back.
If Google is your default search engine, you can follow and manage searches.
To follow a search:
- On your Android device, open Chrome
.
- Search an interest in the address bar.
- In the results, tap Follow or Follow this search.
To find and manage searches you follow in one place:
- On your Android device, open Chrome
.
- Open a New tab.
- At the top right, tap More

- Next to a topic or search you want to unfollow, tap Following.
You can report content in your Discover articles as:
- Misleading or sensational
- Violent or repulsive
- Hateful or abusive
- Other
To report content:
- Next to an article, tap More

- Select the reason you want to report the content.
