Gemini in Chrome is designed to help your users get more done while browsing. This goes beyond having easy access to the existing Gemini experience. Gemini in Chrome also can use the context of the currently viewed webpage (with user permission) to provide relevant responses.
Availability
Gemini in Chrome is available to users that are:
- Signed in to Chrome in the US
- Over the age of 18 years old
- Using English as their default language in Chrome
- Using a MacOS or Windows device
- Using one of Chrome’s pre-stable channels (Beta, Dev, or Canary)
Configure policy
Gemini in Chrome is configured via the Gemini app setting and Chrome’s GeminiSettings policy. Access to this feature requires both to be enabled.
Configure Gemini in Chrome settings in the Admin console
To configure settings for a specific group of user accounts or enrolled Chrome browsers, put the users or browsers in an organizational unit or group.

Sign in with an administrator account to the Google Admin console.
If you aren’t using an administrator account, you can’t access the Admin console.

Go to Menu
Devices > Chrome > Settings. The User & browser settings page opens by default.
Requires having the Mobile Device Management administrator privilege.
If you signed up for Chrome Enterprise Core, go to Menu
Chrome browser > Settings.

(Optional) To apply the setting only to some users and enrolled browsers, at the side, select an organizational unit (often used for departments) or configuration group (advanced). Show me how

- Scroll to Generative AI.
- Select Gemini integrations.
- Click the desired policy value.

Click Save. Or, you might click Override for an organizational unit.
To later restore the inherited value, click Inherit (or Unset for a group).
Settings typically take effect in minutes, but can take up to 24 hours to apply for everyone.
(Optional) Enable Gemini for all users regardless of their Google Workspace license
To allow Gemini in Chrome for users without a qualifying Google Workspace edition, you must grant them access to Gemini under consumer terms.

The GenAiDefaultSettings policy can only be set in the Admin console. This setting doesn't impact model training, as that is defined in your Workspace agreements. Learn more at the Generative AI in Google Workspace Privacy Hub.
Data usage
We want to be completely clear that generative AI does not change the foundational privacy protections that give you choice and control over your data:
- Your interactions with Gemini stay within your organization. Gemini does not share your content outside your organization without your permission.
- Your existing Google Workspace protections are automatically applied. Gemini brings the same enterprise-grade security as the rest of Google Workspace.
- Your content is not used for any other customers. Your content is not human reviewed or used for Generative AI model training outside your domain without permission.
