Use cloud storage as sole storage option on ChromeOS devices

Overview

As an admin, you can use the Google Admin console to configure a cloud storage service, such as Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive, as the sole data storage option for ChromeOS devices in your organization. As a result, you’ll eliminate the option for users to access local storage on their devices.

Benefits of switching to cloud-only storage

  • Prevents locally stored data from getting lost due to hardware, software, or user failures.
  • Further reduces the risk of compromised data—In case of cloud storage options without local cache.
  • Your organization is better prepared for potential business audits and legal holds.
  • Allows for seamless workflow in environments where devices are shared.

What you need

  • ChromeOS devices with version 132 or later that are enrolled in your organization using Chrome Enterprise Upgrade or Chrome Education Upgrade.
  • ChromeOS devices with Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive. For details, go to Set up cloud storage for your users.
